Another edition of the ASOR Mailbag! Thank you for submitting your questions and continue to send them in and we will be happy to answer them in our next feature. You can send them to us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, e-mail, or as a comment on the site. We had a ton of great questions this week, so let’s get right to it.

I’m not sure whether they ended up transferring anywhere, but Bundy and Whitehead are no longer with the Liberty football team.

It’s hard to predict how many games will get picked up on national TV this far out as many times those aren’t announced until the week prior to the game, but if I had to guess the four midweek games should be on national TV. I would also expect one of the other games to get picked up by TV, so that would be five total out of the 12 games.

As for the attendance with the weekday games, there’s only two weekday games – one on a Tuesday and one on a Thursday. I do expect the non-student attendance to dip some in those games, but the student attendance should be up. I think it will be close to a wash for those two games and we won’t see much, if any, difference in attendance.

ourcrossfitlife on Instagram asks, “if liberty doesn’t make CUSA football title game is it a fail for the program?” A similar question, nikolismoore on Instagram asks, “We going to win the CUSA football championship our first year or what?”

Great question. For year one, I wouldn’t look at it as a fail to not be one of the two teams in the conference championship game. I do think that is certainly the goal, even for year one under head coach Jamey Chadwell and his staff. Hopefully we will see similar success to what men’s basketball has seen in the ASUN and have a similar type run of success with five out of six conference title game appearances. By year two, if Liberty hasn’t made the conference championship game in either of the first two years, I would consider that a big disappointment.

rj_wicker1 on Instagram asks, “Is there a front runner QB yet?”

It’s really too early to say. Based on the practice sessions that have been open to the media, Johnathan Bennett is getting the biggest volume of work with the first team. Trey Lowe and Kaidon Salter are also firmly in the mix with first and second team reps. Hopefully by the end of the spring we will have a more concrete answer.

jpdoucet7 on Instagram asks, “What happened to RJ Roderick he was a huge transfer I haven’t heard about in a while?”

Roderick, the safety transfer from South Carolina, never ended up transferring to Liberty.

s.sharpie on Instagram asks, “why is everyone leaving MBB currently?”

This is just life in college athletics now. It happens in every sport and for every team. Losing three players to the portal is the average for men’s basketball. It’s nothing to panic about. Coach McKay is still in charge and will field a competitive team again next season. There’s no reason not to expect that.

We had several questions on the transfer portal targets for basketball. We are and have been updating that right here.

Both. Those are the two biggest needs and with three scholarships available, the Flames will (and have) target both a big and another ball-handler/scoring guard to compliment with Colin Porter.

I’m not sure I’ve seen the light blue uniforms referred to as throw backs but maybe I have missed it. It’s not something that is going away though. Every sport has adopted the color and expect to continue to see it around campus. And it is an official school color. No, it’s not the primary navy blue but it is an approved secondary color by the school and has been for a while.

That has been the rumor recently as Conference USA does not sponsor the sport and the Flames have been looking for a home for next season. We have not confirmed that rumor but it does seem to have some credibility that Liberty will be moving its men’s soccer team to the OVC.

Update: Just a couple hours after our MAILBAG was published, Liberty officially announced that men’s soccer would be joining the OVC.
