The 2025 football season has come to an end following a 4-8 campaign. With the relatively new redshirt rule in effect, players can compete in up to 4 games in a season and still maintain their redshirt. Here’s a look at how Liberty’s true freshman faired, including who redshirted and who had their shirt burned.
SHIRT BURNED
DE Samuel Cohen
Cohen played in 11 of 12 games this past season, playing 75 snaps and finishing with 6 tackles.
DL Kam Cullins
Cullins played in 9 games this season. He played 80 total snaps on defense, finishing with 6 tackles and one pass breakup.
RB Jaylon Coleman
Following the team’s first quasi-bye week with 10 days off as the team transitioned to the midweek schedule for two games in October, we saw Jaylon Coleman become a part of the offensive game play. After Juju Gray went down to injury, Coleman became a mainstay as part of Liberty’s offensive game plan each week as he finished the year playing 95 snaps in seven games. Coleman finished the season with 11 rushes for 79 yards and 10 receptions for 100 yards.
REDSHIRTED
QB Ethan Houck
Houck played in two games when Ethan Vasko was injured. He rotated with Michael Merdinger who was the starter against Old Dominion. Houck got into the game on 22 snaps, completing just 1 of 6 pass attempts for 17 yards with one interception. He also rushed 7 times for 24 yards. Houck did not play in the last half of the season as the coaching staff clearly sought to preserve his redshirt season.
CB Myke Gunn
Gunn played in two games on defense this season, seeing the field for 10 snaps. He recorded 1 tackle.
WR Bryce Randolph
Randolph played in just one game, finishing with 1 catch for 18 yards.
WR Nasir Newkirk
Newkirk played in one game.
RB Malachi Fannin-Render
Fannin-Render played in one game, finishing with 2 carries for 6 yards.
DL Gavin Askew
Askew played 2 snaps in 1 game.
The list of those who did not play:
OL Brandon Edozie
OL Gabe Smith
Joker Jeffrey Hairston, Jr.
CB Uriah Points
