Liberty will play at Coastal Carolina in 2026, according to Coastal Carolina’s official athletics website and something we can confirm.
ASOR had previously first reported the addition of the Chanticleers to the 2026 slate. We now have a date and location as the game will be played on Sept. 26 at Brooks Stadium in Conway, South Carolina. The Flames will open next season in Harrisonburg, Virginia against the James Madison Dukes on Sept. 5 and will host Ball State on Sept. 19 before heading to Coastal. The non-conference portion of the schedule includes a game against Gardner-Webb with a date to be determined.
Coastal Carolina is one of Liberty’s biggest rivals in football, but the two have not met since the 2020 Cure Bowl when No. 23 Liberty defeated the No. 9 Chanticleers, 37-34. Liberty leads the all-time series, 8-7, with most of those meetings occurring when the two were in the FCS level and competing in the Big South Conference, where the two established themselves as the two preeminent programs in the league before moving to the FBS.
Current Liberty head coach Jamey Chadwell is entering his third season with the Flames in 2025. He spent the prior six seasons at Coastal Carolina including the last four as head coach where he guided the Chanticleers to a 39-22 overall record.
