After dropping its first ever CUSA series last week, Liberty softball rebounded with a perfect week, winning all four games including a three-game series sweep at Middle Tennessee. The Lady Flames improve to 11-15 on the season and 4-2 in CUSA play.
Liberty outscored the Blue Raiders by a combined 27-6 over the three-game sweep, including a pair of shutouts. Alexia Carrasquillo homered three times and drove in 10 runs during four games this week, including a pair of three-run homers in the sixth inning to push the Lady Flames ahead and to spark a late inning comeback. Liberty’s 27 runs scored in the three games against MTSU were its most runs in a three-game conference series since scoring 32 runs at Queens in 2023.
TUESDAY: LIBERTY 9, JMU 8
Back-to-back-to-back homers sparked a five-run sixth inning for the Lady Flames, posting a comeback victory over James Madison on Tuesday in Harrisonburg. It was a third straight win for Liberty over the Dukes but first win over JMU in Harrisonburg since 2011.
Liberty trailed 6-4 entering the sixth inning. The Lady Flames would quickly change that, storming back with five runs. Brooke Roberts was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning before Ella Fox drew a one-out walk. Alexia Carrasquillo then blasted a three-run homer, sparking three straight long balls as she was followed by Savannah Jessee and Brynn McManus
Camden Anders earned the victory, pitching around a two-run, seventh inning homer to seal the win. JMU held an 11-5 advantage in hits. Anderson allowed two runs on four hits, striking out one in 3.1 innings. Danner Allen and Gabby Mike both allowed three runs.
McManus was 2 for 3 with a homer, one RBI, and two runs scored while Carrasquillo had three RBI and a run on her long ball. The three straight home runs is the first time the Lady Flames have done that since March 3, 2007.
FRIDAY: LIBERTY 10, MTSU 0 (5 innings)
Danner Allen tossed a three-hit shutout and the Lady Flames scored a season high 10 runs in the series opening win over Middle Tennessee in five innings on Friday night in Murfreesboro. It was Liberty’s first run-rule win of the season.
Liberty scored twice in the top of the first, getting a leadoff double from Ella Fox. Brynn McManus hit a sac fly and Paige Doerr had an RBI double to make it 2-0. Allen would hold the Blue Raiders scoreless throughout, and a seven-run fourth by Liberty made it 10-0.
Allen tossed her second career shutout, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out a career high nine. McManus was 2 for 2 with a homer, three RBI, and two runs scored. Fox was 2 for 4 with a double, triple, one RBI, and two runs scored. Doerr was 1 for 2 with a double, two RBI and one run scored.
SATURDAY: LIBERTY 9, MTSU (5 innings)
Liberty sophomore Camden Anders tossed her first career no-hitter to lead Liberty to the five-inning win on Saturday to secure the series victory. It was Liberty’s 24th no-hitter at the Division I era and first since Katie Love no-hit Jacksonville State on March 16, 2024.
The Lady Flames scored in each of the first four innings, building a 9-0 lead after a three-run fourth. Anders faced just two batters over the minimum, putting an exclamation point on the no-hitter with a strikeout to end a 1-2-3 fifth. She walked two and struck out a career high six.
Carrasquillo was 2 for 4 with a homer, two RBI and one run scored. Savannah Jessee went 2 for 3 with a home run, three RBI, and one run. McManus, Doerr, and Savanah Whatley all doubled.
SUNDAY: LIBERTY 8, MTSU 6
Liberty overcame a 6-4, sixth inning deficit, scoring four times in the sixth to post the victory over Middle Tennessee and secure a series sweep over the Blue Raiders who entered this weekend 3-0 in conference play.
Middle Tennessee hit three home runs in a four-run fifth inning, pushing the Blue Raiders ahead, 6-4. The Lady Flames rallied in the top of the sixth. Brooke Roberts and Ella Fox singled before Alexia Carrasquillo hit a one-out homer to give Liberty the 7-6 lead. Just two batters later, Brynn McManus added a solo home run.
Camden Anders came on for the six-out save, working around a pair of seventh inning baserunners and ending the game with runners on second and third. Caitlyn Nesbitt earned her first career win, allowing two runs on two hits, walking one and striking out one in one innings of relief.
Maci Strickland was 3 for 4 with a double and two runs while Roberts was 3 for 4 with one RBI. JaMaya Byrum went 2 for 4 with two doubles and three RBI. Paige Doerr was 2 for 3 with a run scored.
