Liberty baseball has announced its full 2022 baseball schedule as the Flames will look to return to the NCAA Tournament once again.

The Flames will open the season with a trip to take on the Florida Gators on Feb. 18-20. Liberty will make their home opener at Liberty Baseball Stadium on Feb. 23 against North Carolina A&T followed by a three-game homestand against former Big South rival Winthrop Feb. 25-27.

Other notable non-conference matchups include a home and home series against North Carolina with the Tar Heels visiting Lynchburg on March 8 and the Flames travelling to Chapel Hill on April 26. Liberty will also play home and home series against ACC opponents Wake Forest, Duke, and Virginia Tech.

Liberty will open ASUN play with a three-game series at North Florida March 18-20. The Flames will play their first ASUN home series the following weekend against Stetson on March 25-27. With the ASUN moving to a East and West Division, the conference has opted for only teams in each respective division to play each other both home and away. The Flames will only play conference series against Stetson, North Florida, Florida Gulf Coast, Jacksonville, and Kennesaw State, both home and away. Liberty will not face the teams in the West Division of the ASUN. Eight teams will move on to the 2022 ASUN Baseball Championship at FGCU’s Swanson Stadium in Fort Meyers, Fla., May 25-28.

The Flames’ 2022 schedule will feature 18 games against 2021 NCAA Regional teams. Liberty is slated to face NCAA Regional squads Campbell, Duke, Florida, Jacksonville, North Carolina, Virginia and VCU.

Under 6th year head coach Scott Jackson, Liberty baseball is coming off one of the best seasons in school history as the Flames advanced to the Knoxville regional final falling to No. 3 overall seed Tennessee. Liberty finished the season 41-16 overall, reaching a regional final for just the second time in school history, joining the 2013 team who also accomplished the feat.

The 2021 season saw many highs as Liberty finished with a 5-3 record against ACC opponents. The only team the Flames faced in the regular season from the ACC that it did not defeat was Duke, as the Blue Devils took both games against Liberty in the regular season. The Flames would get their revenge on the ACC Champions in the postseason as Liberty defeated Duke in both games they faced each other in Knoxville to eliminate the Blue Devils.

Liberty won seven games in 2021 over teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament and finished with an RPI in the top 40 for the second time under coach Scott Jackson. The Flames will be looking to advance to a third straight regional appearance in 2022.

The ASUN Coach of the Year in 2021, Jackson led the Flames to a new school record for best winning percentage in a season at the NCAA Division I level at .719. Liberty finished the year as the best defensive team in the country, posting a nation’s best .984 fielding percentage to eclipse the previous school record of .977 set by Jackson’s 2018 squad.
