Update:
According to the Liberty ticket app for season ticket holders, the Flames are also supposed to host North Carolina Central on Nov. 13 and games against opponents to be determined are slated for Dec. 5 and Dec. 11, both at Liberty Arena.
The Flames have played NC Central once before, picking up a 79-63 win on Nov. 14, 2022. The Eagles are coming off a 14-18 season last year where they finished 8-6 in the MEAC, tying for third place in the league. They went on to the conference championship game before losing to Howard. LeVelle Moton is entering his 18th season as head coach at NC Central, guiding them to four NCAA Tournament appearances.

Previous:
While Liberty has not released its non-conference schedule for the upcoming 2026-27 men’s basketball season, we have been able to nearly piece together the entire slate for the Flames. Since our previous update, games against non-Division I opponents Boyce and Kentucky Christian have been identified, as well as a home game against Coppin State on Dec. 17.
According to their respective athletic websites, Liberty is scheduled to host Boyce at Liberty Arena on Nov. 6 and Kentucky Christian on Nov. 17. The Flames are also slated to play against Southern Illinois on Nov. 17 in Charlotte, so that date against KCU has likely been adjusted elsewhere on the calendar.
The game against Boyce could be the team’s home opener, coming just a few days after the season opener against High Point in Rock Hill, South Carolina. That game against the Panthers is one of the first on the college basketball calendar for the upcoming season with tip-off scheduled for just after midnight as part of the Field of 68 tipoff marathon event. The Flames are 2-0 all-time against Boyce, with an 88-46 win on New Year’s Day 2024 the most recent meeting (side note: that game was played the same day the Liberty football team faced Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl). Meanwhile, Liberty is 7-0 all-time against Kentucky Christian, opening the season a year ago with a 98-57 win against them at Liberty Arena.
The Flames will host Coppin State on Dec. 17, as announced by the Eagles on Monday, just two days prior to Liberty’s marquee non-conference home date on Dec. 19 against Dayton. The Eagles will be making the trek to Lynchburg and Liberty Arena for a second straight season after losing to the Flames, 92-50, on Dec. 6 last season in a game where Brett Decker led the Flames with 20 points and Zach Cleveland had 13 assists. Returners Zander Carter (7 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds) and RJ Jones (5 points, 5 rebounds) also had strong showings off the bench. The Eagles were 7-24 last year and tied for 6th in the MEAC at 5-9 under third year head coach Larry Stewart.
These updates leave Liberty with three games left to be scheduled for its non-conference schedule this season.
Liberty (26-8 overall) claimed the CUSA outright regular season title last year for a second straight season, finishing with a 17-3 CUSA record, four games better than second place Sam Houston (13-7). The Flames have claimed 11 total titles over the last eight seasons – one CUSA Championship title, two CUSA regular-season crowns, three ASUN Championship crowns, four ASUN regular season titles and an ASUN division title. Liberty’s 11 crowns are tied for the second most in the country in the last eight years. Liberty has posted a 203-66 combined record over that span. The Flames’ 203 victories are tied for sixth most nationally during that time.
Liberty will open the upcoming season on Monday, November 2 at midnight ET against High Point in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The Flames will also spend Thanksgiving weekend in Wilmington, North Carolina competing in the 3rd annual Live Oak Bank Holiday Classic held at UNC Wilmington’s Trask Coliseum. A full three-game round-robin between Liberty, UNC Wilmington, Princeton, and St. Thomas will be played between Nov. 25th and 28th. The field includes three teams that competed in the NIT this past March.
