Liberty junior linebacker Remington Green announced Tuesday on twitter he is entering the transfer portal and will begin evaluating his transfer options for the upcoming season.

“I want to start by saying that Liberty University has provided me with the opportunity to receive an amazing education and the blessing to grow immensely in my faith as a Christian,” Green said in his announcement. “My time here has taught me so many things and introduced a lot of amazing people into my life. Playing football at this level has always been a dream of mine and I am grateful to have the opportunity to be a part of this university’s rich history.”

Green said he is expected to leave Liberty with his degree in hand and will have one season of eligibility remaining as a graduate transfer.

The King George, Virginia native, saw playing time in 36 games during his three year Liberty career. This past season, he recorded eight tackles and one for loss as he played primarily on special teams.

Green joins starters Solomon Ajayi and Brandon Tillmon, who both exhausted their eligibility in the 2019 season, as linebackers who will not return in 2020, making it a position of high priority in the 2020 recruiting class.

The Flames have added graduate transfer Anthony Butler and freshman Gabe Fuster, both mid-year enrollees, during the early signing period, and the coaching staff is hoping to land another linebacker or two either during signing day next week or from the transfer portal prior to the start of the 2020 season.

Additionally, Liberty returns Amarii Jenkins, Tyren Dupree, Waylen Cozad, Malik Caper, and Aubrey Williams who are all expected to fight for playing time at linebacker.

Freeze is still looking for a linebacker coach to replace Kyle Pope, who left to become the defensive line coach at Memphis.
