Liberty has had a very successful football run dating back to the 2006 season when Danny Rocco was hired. In 2005, the Flames were coming off a 1-10 season under former head coach Ken Karcher. Rocco, then an assistant at Virginia, was hired to take over and things have been trending upwards ever since.

Liberty is one of just nine Division I football programs with six or more wins every season dating back to 2006. Of those nine teams, Liberty is one of only three current FBS teams without a losing record during that time. Several teams saw their streaks that dated to at least 2006 come to an end in 2020 with shortened seasons amid the COVID pandemic.

There are no current FCS teams that have won at least 6 games every year since 2006 that remain in the FCS and haven’t moved up to the FBS in recent seasons.

CURRENT FBS PROGRAMS WITH 6+ WINS & A WINNING RECORD EVERY YEAR SINCE 2006

  • Liberty (joined FBS in 2018)
  • Oklahoma State
  • James Madison (joined FBS in 2022)
  • Jacksonville State (joins FBS in 2023)

CURRENT FBS PROGRAMS WITH 6+ WINS EVERY YEAR SINCE 2006

Note: Does not include the previously mentioned 2 FBS programs. These teams have had at least one season with 6+ wins but a losing record during this stretch (example: 6-7 record in a season).

  • Alabama
  • Clemson
  • Georgia
  • Ohio State
  • Oklahoma

*Note: Boise State, LSU, Penn State, Wisconsin, and Virginia Tech saw their streaks of six+ wins come to an end in 2020, playing a shortened schedule due to the COVID pandemic. Boise State finished the year with a 5-2 overall record, while LSU was 5-5. Penn State finished with a 4-5 record and Wisconsin was 4-3. Virginia Tech finished the 2020 season at 5-6.
