Liberty point guard Drake Dobbs has entered the transfer portal, as first reported by Verbal Commits.

The 6’1″ sophomore guard played in 10 games for the Flames this season, while starting at LSU. He averaged 16 minutes in Liberty’s first two games this season but has seen his minutes dwindle since then. He did not play in the three games Liberty played in Hawaii as part of the Diamond Head Classic this past week. This season, he averaged 1.9 points and 1.1 rebounds per game with 9 assists and 9 turnovers.

Following the game against LSU, Liberty head coach Ritchie McKay elected to pull the redshirt off of true freshman point guard DJ Moore. Moore has seen some playing time in the games since, taking most of Dobbs’ minutes.

As a true freshman last season, Dobbs played in all 29 games while making one start, getting the start on Feb. 12, 2021 against North Florida. He averaged 3.9 points, 1.3 assists, and 1.1 rebounds per game as a freshman and scored a season-high 11 points in the ASUN quarterfinals last season against Kennesaw State.

Dobbs is originally from Eden Prairie, Minnesota where he scored over 2,000 points during his career at Eden Prairie High School. He was a Mr. Basketball finalist in the state of Minnesota and a McDonald’s All-American nominee.
