While you can’t bet on Liberty Flames football if you’re living in Virginia, it’s still good to know how the team is being viewed heading into the season. With three straight seasons of at least eight wins under head coach Hugh Freeze, what do oddsmakers think of the Flames in 2022? Let’s dig in.

Liberty Flames 2022 Win Totals

Here are the win totals and over/under odds at three of Virginia’s top sportsbooks for the Flames’ 2022 win totals.

Sportsbook Flames 2022 Win Total Over/Under Odds
DraftKings 6.5 -160/+135
Caesars 7.5 -115/-115
BetMGM 6.5 -165/+140

Bettors have clearly been hitting the over on the Flames 6.5 win total which is reflected in the odds. Most win total lines with somewhat even action will be typically be around -105 to -115, which is what we see with the odds at Caesars Sportsbook. As more money comes in for a particular side, sportsbooks will alter the odds and/or move the win total if the action continues to be lopsided.

According to ESPN’s Football Power Index, Liberty has the third-highest projected win total among the seven independent schools at 7.6, right in line with Caesars Sportsbook.

Flames Roster Changes Heading Into 2022

While Liberty has lost key pieces from last year’s team, including starting quarterback Malik Willis, Freeze has done a solid job adding talent between the recruiting trail and transfer portal.

Liberty’s 2022 recruiting class ranks 98th in the nation according to 247Sports, which includes 11 three-star prospects. Wide receiver Markel Fortenberry has the highest rating among the group and it also features two highly-rated JUCO transfers.

Quarterback Charlie Brewer headlines the transfer portal additions, as he has racked up over 10,000 passing yards and nearly 70 touchdown passes between his time at Baylor and Utah. He’s the safest option at quarterback but redshirt freshman Kaidon Salter’s ceiling looms in the background. Freeze and his coaching staff have also beefed up the offensive line with the addition of three former three-star prospects. After the team averaged almost 6 yards per carry during the 2020 season, that number dropped to 4.6 yards last year.

Where Can I Bet on Liberty Flames Football?

The struggle is real for those in Virginia who want to place bets on Liberty. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon as a recent Senate bill to allow sports betting on in-state colleges was shut down. If betting on Virginia colleges is off the table, you can also forget about online casinos. Being able to take advantage of offers like the Golden Nugget bonus code won’t be happening anytime soon.

West Virginia, Tennessee, and Washington D.C. are all viable options for Virginians living near those states. All three offer mobile betting with the ability to wager on Liberty football, allowing you to place bets on the Flames if you’re visiting the state or simply passing through.

Maryland will be rolling out online sports betting over the next few months but there are several retail options available.
