Liberty basketball saw several names enter the portal following the conclusion of the 2024-25 season. Here’s a look at where those players have landed since entering the portal:

Bryson Spell – Elon

Spell is a 6’9″ forward who has spent the past four seasons at Liberty. He has played in 48 games while averaging 0.8 points and 0.9 rebounds in 4.5 minutes per game during his Liberty career. This past season, Spell played in 13 games while shooting 7 of 10 from the field and 3 of 4 from three. He finished with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Elon was 17-16 this past season and 8-10 in the CAA.

Owen Aquino – High Point

Aquino is a 6’8″ forward who spent the past season at Liberty after coming to Lynchburg from the JUCO ranks where he played at Eastern Florida State College for two years. This past year for Liberty, Aquino started all 35 games while averaging 8.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 58.3% from the field. He also led the team with 1.1 blocks per game while helping lead the Flames to a 28-7 season including a CUSA regular season and tournament title while advancing to the program’s 7th NCAA Tournament. He scored a season-high 28 points in a win over North Carolina A&T on Dec. 14 and posted five double-doubles on the season.

Aquino has transferred to High Point under their first-year head coach Flyn Clayman who served as associate head coach under Alan Huss at High Point the past two seasons. The Panthers went 56-15 with a 27-5 Big South record over the past two seasons and advanced to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance as the No. 13 seed and matched up against No. 4 seed Purdue in Providence, Rhode Island.

Will Gibson – Cedarville

Gibson is a 6’6″ forward from Louisville, Kentucky who was a true freshman this past season for the Flames. Gibson was originally going to redshirt this past season, but, after Isaiah Ihnen’s injury, Gibson was inserted into the lineup for the first time on January 9 against Sam Houston. He played three minutes in that game and ended up playing in a total of four games for the Flames this season, including in the First Round NCAA Tournament game against Oregon in which Gibson played three minutes and recorded one rebound. In his four games played, Gibson scored 2 points on 1 of 4 shooting with 3 rebounds while playing in 8 minutes. He has transferred to Division II Cedarville..

Curtsi Blair III – Cedarville

Blair is a 6’6″, 210 pound redshirt-freshman originally from Richmond, Virginia and the Steward School. After redshirting as a true freshman in 2023-24, Blair played in 15 games this past season for the Flames where he averaged 2.5 points and 1.3 rebounds per game while shooting 46.4% from the field and 30.8% from three. He had career highs of 19 points and 12 rebounds on Dec. 17 in a Liberty win 124-50 over St. Andrews. Blair saw playing time in 6 conference games, playing a total of 12 minutes in those games. He has transferred to Division II Cedarville where he reunites with former Liberty assistant coach Rob Jones as well as former teammates Will Gibson and Jaylen Davis.

Kai Yu – Bradley

The 7’0″ center is originally from China and played high school ball at Link Year Prep. In 2023-24, he redshirted at Liberty and did not play. This past season, Yu played in 15 games, averaging 3.1 minutes, 1.5 points, and 1.1 rebounds per game while shooting 5 of 9 from the field and 13 of 21 from the free throw line. He has transferred to Bradley, a solid mid-major program out of the Missouri Valley conference. They finished this past season at 28-9 overall and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NIT.
