Liberty has added a commitment from UT Martin transfer wide receiver Elijah Smooth.

Smoot has one year of eligibility remaining after beginning his career at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M before transferring to UT Martin. The 6’1″, 180 Smoot is originally from Beggs, Oklahoma. Since entering the portal, he has picked up offers from South Florida, Kent State, Ball State, Texas State, BYU, Western Kentucky, Toledo, UConn, and East Carolina.

Smoot spent two seasons at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M where he had 27 receptions for 358 yards and a touchdown in 2020 and was named second team All-American by JCGridiron.com. He played in 9 games as a freshman, recording 18 receptions for 215 yards.

He has also spent two seasons at UT Martin. After playing in six games and not recording any receptions as he played six games, primarily on special teams, in 2021, Smoot was a starting receiver for the Skyhawks in 2022, helping them to an OVC Championship. He had 32 receptions for 508 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Smoot is the second wide receiver to commit to the Flames this spring, joining Nebraska transfer Victor Jones, Jr. They join a position of need for Liberty and a room that doesn’t have much depth. Buckhaulter and Jones also join Reese Smith and Errol Rogers who transferred to Liberty prior to the spring. Other receivers on the roster include Kylen Austin, CJ Daniels, Markel Fortenberry, Noah Frith, and Treon Sibley.
