No sooner than the clock struck zero inside the Carrier Dome on Saturday afternoon on Liberty’s 38-21 win over Syracuse, and Hugh Freeze was being mentioned as a possible replacement for SEC jobs not even open.

Go ahead and search for ‘Hugh Freeze’ on the internet or on social media and you will see plenty of references to the Liberty head coach being wanted by other fan bases.

Saturday Down South published an article Saturday afternoon citing Auburn fans calling for Freeze to replace Gus Malzahn.

Before the sun had set Saturday, 247Sports published an article entitled ‘It’s time to have the Hugh Freeze conversation’.

Freeze has been a successful head coach everywhere he’s been – from the NAIA at Lambuth, to the G5 at Arkansas State, to the SEC at Ole Miss, and now at FBS Independent Liberty.

Each and every week the program is reaching new heights under second year head coach Hugh Freeze. He currently has the Flames sitting at 5-0 after the program’s first ever win over an ACC opponent and receiving votes in both major college football top 25 polls.

The offensive-minded Freeze and Liberty sports one of the most dangerous rushing attacks in the country, averaging almost 270 yards per game, and it doesn’t seem to matter who is the primary ball carrier.

His alma mater, a place that has a head coaching vacancy currently, is scheduled to travel to Lynchburg this weekend to take on the unbeaten Flames, and discussions around Freeze and that vacancy will intensify throughout the week.

For Liberty, this is life as a mid-major football and men’s basketball program right now. If your coach has success, others will come calling.
