It is official now, the Flames are headed to the Cure Bowl to take on Coastal Carolina this coming Saturday, Dec. 26. No. 23 Liberty had 6 wins this year and went 1-1 against teams that also made it to a bowl game. That lone win was against Western Kentucky, 30-24, to open the season on Sept. 19. The Hilltoppers finished the season 5-6 overall and 4-3 in Conference USA games. Liberty’s lone loss on the season came at NC State, 15-14, on Nov. 21.

  • #24 NC State (8-3) is headed to the Gator Bowl to play Kentucky on Jan. 2
  • Western Kentucky (5-6) will play Georgia State in the Lending Tree Bowl on Dec. 26

Last year the Flames faced 4 bowl teams (Louisiana, Buffalo, BYU, and Virginia). Liberty went 1-3 in those games, beating Buffalo, 35-17. Since beginning to play a full FBS schedule prior to the start of the 2018 season, the Flames are now 3-8 against teams that would go on to play in a bowl game with wins over Troy (2018), Buffalo (2019), and Western Kentucky (2020).

Of course, 16 bowls were canceled this year due to the COVID pandemic and 22 teams elected to not participate in a bowl game including Virginia Tech who the Flames defeated on Nov. 7.
