Colin Porter will attempt to play one more year of college basketball at Marquette, as he is one of many seniors from last year trying to add a 5th year of eligibility. Marquette announced the addition of Porter on Thursday.
Porter leaves Liberty after a four-year career in which he started all 135 games and helped the Flames capture back-to-back outright Conference USA regular-season championships. He finished his Liberty career with 1,209 points and 520 assists, ranking sixth in program history in assists.
“We’re thrilled to be adding the person and player that Colin is,” Marquette head coach Shaka Smart said. “He’s a strong cultural fit who possesses excellent basketball IQ, poise and maturity. Colin’s shooting, ballhandling and passing will bolster our backcourt immediately.”
As a senior, the Ashland, Kentucky, native averaged 11.1 points, 3.4 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game while shooting 35.8% from three-point range. He also led Conference USA in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.7.
Porter’s consistency and experience should make him an intriguing addition for Marquette head coach Shaka Smart. Smart praised Porter’s basketball IQ, poise and maturity while specifically pointing to his shooting, ballhandling and passing as qualities that will immediately strengthen the Golden Eagles’ backcourt.
For Liberty, Porter’s departure officially closes the book on one of the most accomplished four-year careers of the Ritchie McKay era. He was a two-time All-CUSA honorable mention selection and earned three CUSA All-Academic Team honors, making him the only player in program history to receive that recognition three times.
Porter now gets an opportunity to take his game to the BIG EAST and compete at a high level for a Marquette program looking to return to the postseason in 2026-27.
