Coach McKay and staff have picked up a graduate transfer from Keenan Gumbs, a 6’4″ guard from Division III Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas. He has one season of eligibility remaining and is immediately eligible.

This past season, Gumbs led Schreiner to its first ever conference title, winning the SCAC tournament championship to advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Gumbs was named SCAC 2017-18 Player of the Year and earned the SCAC men’s basketball tournament MVP. He averaged 21.2 points and 7.3 rebounds per game while shooting 43.3% from 3.

In 28 games played this past season, Gumbs scored 20 points or more in 18 games including a 46 point performance. In that outing, Gumbs scored 46 points despite not attempting a single 3 pointer, but he was 26-for-27 from the free throw line.

During his junior campaign, Gumbs averaged 14 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per year. He used a medical redshirt his 2nd collegiate season, during the 2015-16 season. As a freshman, Gumbs scored 7.2 points per game for Schreiner.

He joins a roster that has only one other senior on it in guard Lovell Cabbil. With the addition of Gumbs, Liberty currently has one more scholarship available.
