It’s been three weeks since the Liberty Flames were last playing a football game when Liberty closed out the home portion of its regular season with a shutout win over UMass. Of course, as well know, that game became the team’s regular season finale as the Flames had to cancel the Dec. 5 showdown with Coastal Carolina due to an increase in positive COVID cases within the football program.

Following a two week pause of all football activities, Liberty returned to the practice field on Thursday in preparation for a hopeful bowl game. On Sunday, we should finally know the Flames’ destination as the College Football Playoff selection committee is set to unveil their final rankings and the CFP teams and New Years Six bowl matchups. The rest of the bowl games and matchups should follow from there.

Several bowl invitations have been handed out over the past couple of weeks. A number of teams have opted out of a 2020 bowl invitation including Virginia, Virginia Tech, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Pitt, Louisville, Kansas State, and Stanford. This domino effect could lead to the Flames’ receiving a bowl invitation. Liberty does have a bowl agreement with ESPN Events that operates a number of bowl games. Here’s a look at what bowl game Liberty is being projected into by various publications.
