The 2025-26 NFL season comes to an end on Sunday with Super Bowl LX, as the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks meet with the championship on the line. Former Liberty football wide receiver, and current Patriots receiver, Demario Douglas will be representing his alma mater on the biggest stage at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, California .

Douglas played for the Flames from 2019-22 and becomes the second former Flame to play in a Super Bowl. Dwayne Carswell played in Super Bowl XXXII and XXXIII with the Denver Broncos in 1997 and 1998, winning both. Carswell had 1 reception for 4 yards in Super Bowl XXXII and did not have a reception in Super Bowl XXXIII as John Elway led the Broncos to consecutive Super Bowl titles.

During his four seasons with the Flames, Douglas had 2,193 receiving yards and 17 offensive touchdowns. He also had two punt returns for touchdown. As a senior, he led the team with 993 receiving yards and scored seven total touchdowns. Douglas helped the Flames rise to the FBS level. He played in Liberty’s first bowl game in 2019, and went on to play in four bowl games, one in each of his four seasons at Liberty, winning three of them.

Douglas was selected by the Patriots int he 6th round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He led the Patriots with 561 receiving yards as a rookie in 2023 in 14 games played. This season, Douglas has caught 31 passes for 447 yards and 3 touchdowns. In three playoff games, he has 3 receptions for 39 yards and a touchdown.

In addition to Pop Douglas, Liberty has another connection on the Patriots and competing in the Super Bowl this weekend. Tony Dews, the Patriots’ running backs coach, played tight end at Liberty from 1992-95.
