Coach Mike Minter is entering his 9th season at Campbell with a 36-46 record after being hired in 2012. Minter was a member of two National Championship teams at Nebraska and played in the 2003 Super Bowl with the Carolina Panthers. Minter coached Special Teams and was a defensive assistant at Liberty University under Turner Gill for one season.

The Camels are entering into their third season with the Big South after moving up to the conference in 2018. Prior to the move, Campbell was not offering football scholarships for the football team. With last season being an anomaly, Campbell scheduled four games with FBS opponents all within a 21 day period in the fall of 2020. They played from September 12th – October 2nd. Campbell played Georgia Southern tough in their first game of the season last year, losing 27-26. The Camels lost to Coastal Carolina 43-21, Appalachian State 52-21, and Wake Forest 66-14, during the fall season, finishing 0-4.  Coach Minter was happy for his team to play a difficult schedule and felt that it will prepare them going forward in the 2021 season. To give better perspective of a full season record for Campbell, in 2019 they went 6-5 in their second season in the Big South.

The Camels have had several transfer players from the FBS join their team, but the two key players for them are quarterback Hajj-Malik Williams and Defensive Back Darion Slade. Last year Williams threw for 664 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions in the short 2020 campaign for the Camels. Slade recorded 36 total tackles and 26 solo tackles in four games last year. He is thought to be a possible NFL pick next year.

Campbell is picked to finish fifth in the Big South Conference this season where Monmouth is the preseason favorite. Kennesaw State is picked second, followed by North Carolina A&T and Charleston Southern.
