The Conference USA announced the 2026-27 men’s basketball schedule on Thursday, revealing the majority of Liberty’s basketball schedule for the upcoming season.
The Flames are entering their fourth season in CUSA, one of ten members in the league alongside Delaware, FIU, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Middle Tennessee, Missouri State, New Mexico State, Sam Houston, and Western Kentucky. Teams will play 18 conference games playing a full round robin home and home schedule with each team.
Liberty’s first league game of the 2026-27 campaign will be at Liberty Arena against the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens on Jan. 2. This will be the second time in four seasons in the league (also 2024-25 season) that the Flames have opened the CUSA slate in their home building.
Liberty’s first road trip includes games at FIU (Jan. 7) and Missouri State (Jan. 9). The Flames will host Middle Tennessee (Jan. 14) and Western Kentucky (Jan. 16) in the middle of January before playing road games at Jacksonville State (Jan. 21) and at defending CUSA champion Kennesaw State (Jan. 23). The Flames’ other home league games include bouts with Sam Houston (Jan. 28), New Mexico State (Jan. 30), Missouri State (Feb. 4), FIU (Feb. 6), Kennesaw State (Feb. 18) and Jacksonville State (Feb. 20). Liberty will close out the regular season with a trip to Delaware on March 6.
For the fourth year in a row, the CUSA Men’s Basketball Championship will be played at Propst Arena in Huntsville, Ala. The event will take place in conjunction with the CUSA Women’s Basketball Championship, March 9-13.
Liberty (26-8 overall) claimed the CUSA outright regular season title last year for a second straight season, finishing with a 17-3 CUSA record, four games better than second place Sam Houston (13-7). The Flames have claimed 11 total titles over the last eight seasons – one CUSA Championship title, two CUSA regular-season crowns, three ASUN Championship crowns, four ASUN regular season titles and an ASUN division title. Liberty’s 11 crowns are tied for the second most in the country in the last eight years. Liberty has posted a 203-66 combined record over that span. The Flames’ 203 victories are tied for sixth most nationally during that time.
Liberty will open the upcoming season on Monday, November 2 at midnight ET against High Point in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The Flames will also spend Thanksgiving weekend in Wilmington, North Carolina competing in the 3rd annual Live Oak Bank Holiday Classic held at UNC Wilmington’s Trask Coliseum. A full three-game round-robin between Liberty, UNC Wilmington, Princeton, and St. Thomas will be played between Nov. 25th and 28th. The field includes three teams that competed in the NIT this past March. Liberty is also scheduled to conclude a home-and-home series with Dayton by hosting the Flyers in Lynchburg this coming season on December 19.
