IT’S TIMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Nothing says let’s ring in the New Year quite like turning the bird app into a battleground for the ultimate prize; the Liberty Twitter Bracket Challenge.

Now I remember watching as an observer and enjoying the chaos before jumping into the fray last year where I rattled off a couple wins (in my defense I was on my honeymoon at the time so I was a little occupied). It’s a great time for everyone to interact and come with creative ways to harbor votes in order to win the championship belt.

And while I’m not eligible, I was able to weasel my way into the committee and the selection/seeding which was a great time. If I ever get to apply to land on any of the college selection committees I’ll be using this on my resume. There are a ton of great people out there on twitter and it was tough trying to widdle it down to 64 AND THEN seed them all 1-16.

(Side note: No one will mention it but I was helping the powers at be with all of the Google Sheet stuff. Richie Spreadsheets in the house)

(Double side note I’m typing this up with with the Cheez-It Bowl about to kick off. FSU -9.5)

Onto the brackets!

South Tower Region

Everyone knows the parking lot near the south tower is where things get a little weird and I think this bracket has that kind of potential. Not Jamey Chadwell is the one seed coming off a rebranding and I think will have a great path to the Elite Eight. Big fan of NJC and I’m not just saying that because he gifted me (and others) some Malik swag.

We also have the potential for an all time second round matchup with Dion Anthony and Nick Pretty. Could provide us with some hilarious content. Will Grant has potential as a 14 seed to make some noise and it looks like two Spirons are in the top half. No idea if they’re related but could see a family feud in the sweet 16.

Overall NJC is the one seed for a reason and I think he rolls.

Picks

NJC to win the South Tower +105

Will Grant upset in the first +365

Gmen LU to get to the Sweet 16 +250

East Campus Region

I never lived on East because I’m a man of the people. Could I have? Maybe. But I enjoyed slumming it up with the common folk on the circle. Easier to climb in and out of windows at night. Jenna is the one seed after a major run last year and she’s only gotten more popular. To be honest I’m shocked they haven’t let her call a play in one of the basketball blowouts. She’s a current student and knows a ton of players so she’s going to be tough to beat.

I do think it’ll be tough for her to make it out, this bracket is loaded. Poor Austin Marsh is walking into the newest First Lady of Liberty Football, Mrs. Solmaz Chadwell. I liked Austin making a run but not so much anymore. Ellie McKay is obviously well known and has been in the LTBC before. I like Bill Powell as a 5 seed and I think he can get to the Sweet 16. The all Brandon match up in the 6/11 is going to be a good one too. Same with the 7/10 match up. There’s a lot of great twitter folk in this bracket and I’m excited to see what they all do to get some votes.

Picks

Bill Powell to the Sweet 16 +175

Mrs. Chadwell over Marsh -150

Someone whose name begins with B to get to the Elite 8: +480

Green Hall Region

(Texting the Boca Boys because I don’t remember what Green Hall is. Campus North? Yes. Confirmed Campus North)

I had one class in Campus North and I dropped it after two weeks because it was hard and I didn’t need it. One of the few times quitting is okay. This region is led by good ol’ Jeremiah Flinchum, better known as Jerry. With a tongue-in-cheek tag on Twitter, Jerry is just about everywhere on the Bird (including getting me unbanned after I *allegedly* made some threats). I do think he’ll get a tough battle from Brooks Potter in the second round but Jerry I think has a nice path to the final four.

The bottom of that bracket has some potential as well with Dennis Fields as a 10 seed and General Scruggs creeping around as the three seed. LMV is super active as well so I can see many matchups here being close.

Picks

Jerry to win the Region -110

Brooks Potter to win in the first round -105

Dennis Fields to get to the Sweet 16 +400

Demoss Hall Region

My favorite of the three halls, no regions, but definitely my favorite Hall. Great memories so no snarky jokes here. I do think RWU is the most vulnerable of the one seeds; I just can’t figure out who could be the one to dethrone him. CoSeezy I’m just hearing about and after checking out his twitter he might be the coolest person in the world. I reached out to JC Official CP0 Stan who is going to be my one of my dark horses but I’m not sure if the rookie is ready to take down a one seed. Strong two and three seeds with Turtle and Paul Boyce. Both are going to get creative when it comes to getting votes. Point is always a wildcard and could get his Boise State minions to get votes.

Picks

Paul Boyce to win the Region +620

Coseezy Round One -105

Turtle/Point Round 1 Parlay +150

Closing Thoughts

Just last night things were flying off the handle in the comment section of the live show. It spilled over onto Twitter directly after and I’ve enjoyed seeing everyone plot out their next move. After each round I’ll be doing a best of blog where I highlight some of the funny tweets.

See you on The Bird!
