What a week it was for Flames Nation as it seems the program reached new heights in the 31-21 win over Montana. If it were up to me, I’d say we should just dwell on that game for a few more weeks, but with a tough matchup against Southern Illinois looming, I guess it’s time to move on. Fortunately, with that, comes a new edition of our Bold Predictions Challenge.

And if you’re wondering how you did last week:

Congrats to FLAMEfromBAMA for winning a second week, he’s been dominant thus far.

Know that once dropped scores are reflected on the overall leaderboard, things are quite a bit tighter, so continue to be diligent in your picking, there’s a long way to go!

Hopefully SIU brings one of these things on Saturday.

Also note that Southern Illinois’ mascot is a Saluki(?) which is evidently this awesome creature pictured to the right. Too cool.

And with that, we’ll gear up for this week!

1. Will Liberty return a kickoff past the 35?

A) Yes

B) No

Liberty has been much improved in the return game this year after an abysmal 2014. Will the Flames break one against the Salukis?

2. Who will win?

A) Liberty

B) the Salukis

Right now the Salukis are a 2.5 point favorite.

3. Who will have more receiving yards, Darrin Peterson, or any other Liberty receiver?

farrow2A) Peterson

B) Other

Liberty has boasted a much more rounded receiving corps than I thought they would this year. With guys like Parker, Shells, and Farrow complimenting Peterson, anyone could lead the team.

4. How many teams in the Big South will be undefeated after this week?

A) 0

B) 1

C) 2

It comes down to Kennesaw State and Coastal. Coastal will take on Bryant and Kennesaw will be matched up against Dayton.

5. Will Mark Ianotti score a rushing touchdown this week?

A) Yes

B) No

The Saluki quarterback has rushed for two touchdowns in as many games, and is the Saluki’s leading rusher. He won’t be easy to stop, but thus far, Liberty has been one of the premier rushing defenses in the FCS.

6. How many touchdowns will Des Rice record?

"get off me little boy"

“get off me little boy”

A) 0

B) 1

C) 2

D) 3+

The man likes to be in the end zone, how many times will he make it?

Bold Predictions (pick 3)

chima1. Chima Uzowihe gets as many or more sacks than everyone on the Salukis combined.

He has 5.5 sacks through 3 games. My goodness.

2. Woodrum records more passing yards than Iannotti.

Woodrum is averaging 242 to Iannotti’s 352 passing yards per contest, but if you picked him against Gustafson last week, you know Woodrum has come through on this Bold Prediction before.

3. Macon gets a TD.

Macon can gash a defense when he gets going. I wouldn’t be surprised if Liberty looks to get the ball in his hands down near the goal-line.

4. There will be an onsides kick in the first three quarters.

lunsfordBoth teams will be searching for that spark that might decide the outcome of the game.

5. Liberty gets a first place vote in the STATS top 25 poll.

This week six teams received first place votes in the STATS poll. If Liberty wins and a couple top teams go down, you never know.

6. JMU beats SMU

Remember that team we were supposed to play this week? Well, they are 3-0, meanwhile SMU is 1-2, but note that SMU lost to Baylor and TCU, both of whom are in the top 25. JMU’s message boards seem optimistic about their chances though.

7. Liberty has more rushing first downs than penalties.

Right now Liberty has 22 first downs rushing to 27 penalties. I think running the ball will be a big emphasis this week, while hopefully, Liberty plays a clean game.

Picks must be submitted in the comments section by 5:00 on Saturday. Good Luck!
