Week 2 Power Rankings as we actually have some games to discuss. All opponent rankings in parenthesis are KenPom.com rankings.

 South:
1. Coastal Carolina
Last week’s results:
W, 74-70 Akron (OT)
L, 90-72 Ole Miss

This week:

  • 11/15 @ (#249) Tennessee Tech 8pm
  • 11/20 vs Johnson & Wales 7:30

Coastal with a solid win over Akron, and they should win both of their games this week.

2. Charleston Southern
Last week’s results:
L, 68-58 Charlotte
L, 82-73 Arizona

This week:

  • 11/15 vs Hiwasee 7:30
  • 11/20 vs (#197)ETSU 7:30

CSU unable to do any damage as an underdog in their first 2 games. They did give Arizona a tough challenge. The Buccaneers with a non-DI opponent, and a good challenge against ETSU this week. I wonder if there will be any posterizing dunks on ETSU (shout-out to Tim Scarborough).

3. UNC Asheville
Last week’s results:
W, 71-61 Western Carolina
L, 67-59 UNC Wilmington

This week:

  • 11/15 @ (#53)Tennessee 12:30 ESPNU
  • 11/16 Puerto Rico Tip-off
  • 11/17 Puerto Rico Tip-off

UNCA with a solid win over WCU, but a bit of a let down against UNC Wilmington. Big challenge this week against Tennessee.

4. Presbyterian
Last week’s results:
L, 77-44 Clemson
L, 52-38 Georgia Tech

This week:

  • 11/18 @ (#25)Creighton 3:05
  • 11/20 @ (#5)Wisconsin 8pm

Very challenging schedule by Presby to start the season.

5. Gardner-Webb
Last week’s results:
L, 76-59 North Carolina
W, 77-39 Covenant
L, 66-62 Lipscomb

This week:

  • 11/15 @ (#90)Depaul 8:30
  • 11/17 @ (#59)Iowa 8pm
  • 11/20 @ (#298)Howard 4pm

A few good matchups coming up this week for Gardner-Webb. We will know a lot more about them next week this time.

6. Winthrop
Last week’s results:
W, 80-48 St Andrews
L, 66-55 Indiana State

This week:

  • 11/17 vs (#29)VCU 2pm
  • 11/20 vs Lenoir-Rhyne 7pm

A nice home game with VCU this week, but it will still be tough to gauge how the Eagles are doing in the Pat Kelsey era.

North:
1. Campbell
Last week’s results:
W, 74-55 Averett
L, 71-67 Northwestern State

This week:

  • 11/16 vs (#295)Appalachian State 7:45
  • 11/18 @ (#40)Iowa State 7pm
  • 11/20 @ (#28)Cincinnati 7pm

Very disappointing start to the season with a home loss to Northwestern State. They hold on to the #1 spot in the North, barely, as High Point is hot on their heels.

2. High Point
Last week’s results:
W, 81-73 UNC Greensboro
W, 86-64 Appalachian State

This week:

  •  11/17 vs (#200)William & Mary 7pm
  • 11/21 vs St Andrews 7pm

We tried to warn you about the John Brown and Alan Cheney show down in High Point. Off to a blazing start so far.

3. VMI
Last week’s results:
L, 84-76 The Citadel
L, 80-74 Army
W, 116-81 Central Pennsylvania

This week:

  • 11/15 @ (#68)Virginia Tech 7pm
  • 11/21 @ (#157)Old Dominion 7pm

2 good in-state matchups for the Keydets this week.

4. Liberty
Last week’s results:
L, 84-42 Richmond
L, 71-59 William & Mary
L, 68-59 Georgetown

This week:

  • 11/19 @ (#124)UC Irvine 6pm
  • 11/20 @ (#274)Sam Houston State 8pm
  • 11/21 @ (#119)Southern Miss 6pm

Talk about an embarrassing game against Richmond, and an embarrassing 2nd half against William & Mary. Liberty did show some improvement against Georgetown. 3 more games this week to prove their metal. Liberty should continue to improve as the season develops.

5. Radford
Last week’s results:
L, 79-67 Wake Forest
W, 76-71 (OT) Cincinnati Christian

This week:

  • 11/16 vs (#334)Towson 8pm
  • 11/17 @ (#293)Kennesaw State 8pm
  • 11/18 @ (#289)Eastern Kentucky 5pm
  • 11/21 vs Brevard 7pm

Solid showing for the Highlanders against Wake, but then a head-scratcher against Cincy Christian. Radford has a busy schedule this week with 4 games.

6. Longwood
Last week’s results:
L, 81-47 Marshall

This week:

  • 11/15 vs (#254)Norfolk State 7pm
  • 11/18 @ (#106)Arkansas 4pm
  • 11/20 @ (#25)Creighton 8:05

No surprise with the Marshall outcome. The Norfolk State game will be a good barometer for where Longwood stands right now. And it must be Creighton week in the conference this week.
