Elite 8 recap:

#1 2020 continues its domination, winning with over 96% of the votes in the first round, and now advancing to the Final 4 with another lopsided win this time over #8 2017. The 1-seed secured 95% of the votes to advance.

The 2-seed 2019 continues a very similar path as the 1-seed, winning the first round with over 96% of the votes, and similarly dispatching the 7-seed 2018 team. Two very similar teams, but one that advanced to the NCAA Tournament and won a game compared to the 2018 team which lost in the Big South Championship game on a buzzer-beater to Radford. The 2-seed secured 92% of the votes to advance.

The 6-seed 2009 team led by freshmen Jesse Sanders and Seth Curry and veterans Anthony Smith and Kyle Ohman spring the mild upset over the 3-seed 1997 team. Neither team won a championship, both had 23 wins, but the 1997 team was the Big South co-regular season champs and lost in the championship game. #6 wins with 62.5% of the votes.

It was our closest matchup of the Elite 8, but the #4 seed 1994 team is able to hold off the underdog 12-seed 2011 team, winning with 51.5% of the votes. It’s the second straight win for 1994 by a close margin, as they knocked off the 13-seed 2013 team with less than 58% of the vote.

Final 4 Matchups:

#1 2020 vs #4 1994

This might be a tough matchup for the ’94 team. Yes, they were the first team to ever reach the Big Dance and Peter Aluma was a force by March, but the 2020 squad is loaded with veteran leadership.

#2 2019 vs #6 2009

Wow, this would be a fun game if it happened in real life. Could Lovell Cabbil lock up Seth Curry? How much would the defensive minded version of the ’19 team affect the ’09 offensive firepower? That ’09 team liked to shoot the 3 – Curry, Smith, and Ohman could all catch fire.
