The Flames hit the road tonight against Austin Peay as they look to win their 4th straight game.  The tip off tonight is scheduled for 8pm from Clarksville, Tennessee.  Austin_Peay_Governors02

1. Team introduction.
The Governors come into tonight at 4-5 overall.  Last season, Austin Peay went 8-23 overall, and 4-12 in the Ohio Valley Conference.  The Governors will look to improve on that mark this season, as well as avenge an Overtime loss to Liberty last season at the Vines Center.  Peay is led by two Seniors, who were both named to the pre-season all OVC team.

2. Offense.   The Governors come into tonight’s game scoring 75.6 PPG.  They are shooting a little better than 17% from 3-point range on the season, and 66% from the charity stripe.  Led by Senior Travis Betran, Austin Peay has four players averaging double digit scoring.

3. Defense.  Peay is allowing 80.8 PPG so far this season.  Chris Horton leads the team with  10 rebounds per game, and also leads the Governors in blocks with 31 on the year thus far.  They are also giving up an average of 7.2 3-point field goals per game.

4. Player Turnover.  Of their top five players in terms of minutes, the Governors only lost one player from last season.  That player was also their second leading scorer from 2012-13,  Anthony Campbell.  Peay will be looking to replace his production throughout the year.

5. Possible Starters. A look at the likely starting line-up for Austin Peay…

Senior Guard Travis Betran

Senior Guard Travis Betran

Guard: Travis Betran (#4), a 6’3″, 185-pound Senior, was the leading scorer for the Governors and is expected to compete for the OVC scoring title this season.

Guard: Damarius Smith (#22), a 6’2″, 190-pound Junior, transferred in from a JUCO after spending two years at Lipscomb.

Forward/Center: Chris Horton (#5), a 6’8″, 195-pound Sophomore who leads the team in rebounding and blocks.

Forward:  Will Triggs (#10), a 6’6″, 230-pound Senior was a pre-season all-OVC selection.  He is the only four year Senior on the squad, so the Governors will look to him for leadership.

Forward/Wing: Ed Dyson (#24), a 6’4″, 190-pound Junior, transferred in from Cloud Junior College in Kansas.  He is one of the most athletic players on the roster and could challenge the Flames from several spots on the floor.

6. Prediction. Liberty comes in as the hot team in this match up.  The Flames have won 3 in a row, while the Governors have dropped their last 2.  This is a very winnable road game for Liberty, and we expect them to push hard for a win.  The Flames have held their opponents very well over this win streak, and we expect that Liberty pulls out another solid performance tonight.  Liberty 68 Austin Peay 62.
