An updated look at our ASUN men’s basketball Power Rankings after the first few weeks of conference play.This week’s Power Rankings are based on games played through January 25th.

Well, Liberty got put on a COVID pause and hasn’t played any games since our previous update. The three-time defending ASUN champs remain at No. 1 with the slimmest of margins.

This week: 1/27 vs North Alabama, 1/29 vs Jacksonville State, 1/31 @ Kennesaw State

2. Jacksonville St 13-6, 6-0 #124

The Gamecocks are just on the heels of Liberty and are currently 6-0 in league play following their win against Bellarmine on Monday night. Jacksonville State has a big weekend on the road on the docket, including what is currently a showdown of the top two teams in the power rankings and the only remaining unbeatens in the ASUN.

3. Kennesaw St 9-9, 4-1 #211

The Owls continue to be the early season surprise in the conference. They dropped their first conference game on Saturday at Lipscomb by four points, but responded with a strong showing at home on Monday night against Jacksonville in a game for second place in the ASUN’s East Division behind Liberty. A big week for Kennesaw State this week, as they play host to the two remaining ASUN unbeatens.

This week: 1/27 vs Jacksonville State, 1/29 vs North Alabama, 1/31 vs Liberty

4. Bellarmine 11-9, 5-1 #210

For a second straight season, Bellarmine is off to a terrific start in ASUN play. The Knights had a rough start to the year, dropping their first five games, granted all of them against teams ranked in KenPom’s top 50. Once they got into conference play, they picked up where they left off last season. In a matchup of unbeaten conference foes Monday night, the Knights came up on the short end against Jacksonville State.

This week: 1/27 @ Stetson, 1/29 @ FGCU

5. Jacksonville 11-7, 3-3 #235

The Dolphins have gone through a gauntlet the past week, with three road games against Liberty, Bellarmine, and Kennesaw State. Jacksonville came up on the short end on all three, dropping three straight games after opening league play at 3-0. They will look to get back on track with two home games this weekend.

6. Central Arkansas 6-12, 3-2 #332

The Bears had their lone game of the past week, against Liberty, canceled due to COVID issues with the Flames. They will hit the road this weekend for a couple of games in Jacksonville.

7. Eastern Kentucky 10-10, 2-4 #232

After beginning conference play at 0-4, presumed ASUN contender Eastern Kentucky has rebounded with wins at home over Lipscomb and North Florida. The Colonels will now have to try to maintain their winning ways in Florida for a couple of games this weekend.

The Bisons picked up a nice win at home over previously unbeaten in ASUN play Kennesaw State on Saturday afternoon. Will Pruitt led the way with 18 points, one of four players in double figures scoring in the win.

9. FGCU 12-8, 2-4 #217

FGCU had a chance for a statement win over the weekend at Jacksonville State, but were unable to keep pace with the Gamecocks, falling 79-71. The Eagles will have two tough home games this weekend as they hope to remain in contention in the ASUN’s East Division.

This week: 1/27 vs Eastern Kentucky, 1/29 vs Bellarmine

10. Stetson 8-11, 2-4 #295

The Hatters continue to be without their all-conference guard Rob Perry, but were able to pick up their first win without Perry on Saturday against North Alabama, 67-65. The Hatters have a couple of big opportunities at home this weekend when the ASUN Kentucky duo pays a visit.

This week: 1/27 vs Bellarmine, 1/29 vs Eastern Kentucky

11. North Alabama 8-11, 1-5 #291

The Lions came up on the short end of a tight game at home, falling to Stetson Saturday afternoon by two points. North Alabama will have a difficult time finding wins, particularly with a tough pair of road contests this week at Liberty and Kennesaw State.

12. North Florida 4-16, 0-6 #301

The Ospreys had a strong showing in their non-conference game on Thursday this week at Florida State, remaining competitive before dropping an 86-73 decision behind some strong three point shooting. North Florida couldn’t keep that trend going on Saturday, as they fell behind Eastern Kentucky early and was unable to mount a comeback, remaining winless in league play.
