Liberty is 11 games into the season and the Flames appear to be the best team in the ASUN. There is still a ton of season left and a lot to be decided but we wanted to update the player of the year standings at this point.

Caleb Homesley

Homesley was voted the preseason ASUN POTY and has gotten off to a good start. He is averaging 11.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Not necessarily eye popping stats, but the best thing he has going is the best player on the best team argument.

Scottie James

James is currently averaging 10.5 PPG which ranks 18th overall in the conference. He is averaging 7.6 RPG which ranks 6th in the conference. His best stat is his FG% which is 57% and ranks him 4th in conference.

Zach Cooks

If this award was decided by points per game average it would go to Cooks. He leads the conference in scoring by a 6 point margin. He is currently averaging 23.6 PPG. The biggest negative is he plays for NJIT and they look to be one of the worst teams in the conference.

Carter Hendricksen

Hendricksen is currently averaging 17.5 PPG which ranks him 2nd in conference. North Florida could be Liberty’s toughest challenger in the conference which makes Hendricksen even more of a legitimate choice.

KJ Johnson

KJ is one of the top freshmen in the league. He is averaging 15.3 PPG for the Bisons which ranks him 3rd in scoring for the conference. Last year, the Flames tied Lipscomb for first in the regular season and the Bisons should be near the top again this year.

A couple other guys to keep your eyes on would be Ahsan Asadullah for Lipscomb, Rob Perry for Stetson, and Jamari Blackmon for University of North Alabama. The Flames will begin conference play at FGCU on Jan. 2.
