Liberty has signed Division II transfer Tyrell Gainey from Albany State.
He is a 6’1″, 175 pound defensive back from Orlando, Florida and Wekiva High School. Since entering the portal, Gainey has received offers from FIU and several others. He also took visits to Virginia Tech and Georgia State.
In 10 games played this season, Gainey has 5 interceptions, 11 pass breakups, 2 forced fumbles, 2 touchdowns, 3.5 tackles for loss, and 30 tackles while playing for the top scoring defense in the country at the Division II level. He was named second team all-conference as a defensive back.
