Fresh off adding the program’s highest rated recruit in program history in four-star 2026 guard Eli Sancomb, Liberty basketball adds another commitment from 4-star 2027 guard Ty Cobb.

Cobb is a 6’1″, 180 pound guard from Baxter, Tennessese and Upperman High School where he led the Bees to the TSSAA Class 3A State Championship this past March as a 10th grader, winning the state championship at the Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro. The state tournament MVP, Cobb scored 33 points to go along with 10 rebounds and 5 assists in the championship game. He was also named TSSAA Class 3A Mr. Basketball this past season. In the state championship, he tied a single-game state tournament record for free-throw percentage with his 14 of 14 performance at the line.

Liberty head coach Ritchie McKay and the Flames have been recruiting Cobb aggressively this year, making frequent contact with him in recent months and offering him this past week. Cobb has a growing list of offers that currently includes Middle Tennessee, Samford, Belmont, Tennessee Tech, UT Martin, and Northwestern State. He is rated as a 4-star in the 247Sports Composite ranking and checks in at No. 145 in the country for the Class of 2027 and No. 114 on Rivals.

Cobb is rated 0.9473 in the 247Sports Composite ranking. This makes him the second highest rated recruit in Liberty basketball history, only trailing the aforementioned Sancomb who is rated 0.9578. Liberty’s previously highest rated players were Kyle Rode and Isiah Warfield who each checked in at 0.8678.

Sancomb, who is joined in the Class of 2026 with fellow Liberty commits Eli Herbert and Reece Davidson, can sign as early as November 12. Cobb is the first commit for the Flames in the Class of 2027.
