Scouting Texas A&M

Behind third-year head coach Trisha Ford, the Aggies look to continue their recent ascent in college softball having reached a Regional in 2023 before advancing to the Super Regionals last year, and, this year, their eyes set on the College World Series and a national title.

Texas A&M had one of their more successful seasons in program history, earning its first ever No. 1 overall national seed. It all starts in the circle with ace Emiley Kennedy. She leads the team in innings and wins.

The Aggies can also rake. They have scored 10 or more runs 20 times this season and feature a lineup with multiple weapons. Sophomore Mya Perez is on track to record the most RBI by an Aggie in a single season. Senior Koko Wooley resides in the top five in career hits as well as stolen bases. Freshman KK Dement and transfer Mac Barbara provide additional power, while Amari Harper and Kennedy Powell continue to find ways to get on base to help A&M find ways to win ballgames.

Scouting Liberty

Owning back-to-back Conference USA regular season and tournament titles, Dot Richardson’s Lady Flames are proven winners. In her 12th year at the helm, Liberty has already defeated four NCAA Tournament teams this year, including No. 15 overall seed Alabama. In 2024, Liberty was one out away from taking a 2-1 game against No. 11 seed Georgia when a pair of hits from the Bulldogs spoiled their chance of playing in the program’s first-ever super regional.
Liberty features this year’s CUSA Player of the Year (Rachel Roupe), Pitcher of the Year (Elena Escobar), Newcomer of the Year (Savanah Whatley), and Coach of the Year (Dot Richardson).

The Lady Flames are led by right-handed hurler Elena Escobar, who boasts the 23rd-best ERA in the nation at 1.83. Holding batters to a .201 batting average this season, Escobar limits free bases and forces opponents to rely on hits to be successful. She was named the 2025 CUSA Tournament MVP after going 3-0 with a 0.33 ERA and two shutouts in the conference tournament, logging 341 pitches over the three-day tournament. Kaylan Yoder has grown into her role as Liberty’s second reliable arm, while Paige Bachman is a veteran and will likely be called on at some point this weekend.

Offensively, seven of Liberty’s nine regular starters bat .300 or better. KK Madrey hits .406 with a CUSA-leading 48 stolen bases. Roupe leads the CUSA with 18 doubles and is one of 18 DI players to hit over 20 home runs this year. Oregon State transfers Paige Doerr and Savanah Whatley provide offensive punch while Savannah Woodard has thrived in the leadoff spot. Brynn McManus provides a power bat while catcher Savannah Jessee is batting .325 this season. Coming up short of taking down the host a year ago, this is a talented and motivated Liberty team.

#3 Marist Red Foxes

  • RPI: 71
  • Record: 47-7-1 (21-2-1 MAAC)
  • Team average: .345
  • Team ERA: 1.99
  • Fielding percentage: .972
  • Offense: 7.38 runs/game
  • Defense: 2.29 runs/game

Top Pitchers

  • Kiley Myers (22-1, 1.50 ERA, 24 starts)
  • Maddie Pleasants (16-3, 2.20 ERA, 19 starts)

Top Hitters

  • Haley Ahr (.521 avg, 1.357 OPS, 57 RBI)
  • Miah McDonald (.448 avg, 1.520 OPS, 24 HR)
  • Peyton Pusey (.422 avg, 1.099 OPS, 15 SB)
  • Maddie Pleasants (.394 avg, 1.334 OPS, 70 RBI, 22 HR)

Scouting Marist

The No. 3 seed in Bryan-College Station, Marist is on a 17-game win streak heading into its second straight NCAA Tournament. With a 10-2 run-rule victory over Siena to claim the MAAC Tournament title, the Red Foxes have a program-best 47 wins in the books this season. Their most notable wins came against Notre Dame, McNeese State and Tarleton State during their non-conference slate.

Marist is second in the nation with 103 homers, led by MAAC Player of the  Year Miah McDonald’s 24. The nation’s leader in batting average, Kiley Myers, has shone for the Red Foxes. Hitting a ridiculous .521, Myers has 87 hits but only 12 for extra bases. Maddie Pleasants has clubbed 22 bombs. This is the same offense that run-ruled 33 percent of MAAC competition during the regular season.

Sitting eighth in the country in ERA, lefty Kiley Myers is having an outstanding year in Poughkeepsie, NY. Pitching 16 complete games, the All-MAAC first teamer is used to going the distance. Additionally, Pleasants, the MAAC Pitcher of the Year, is great at scoring runs and limiting them.

#4 Saint Francis Red Flash

  • RPI: 203
  • Record: 26-24 (14-7 NEC)
  • Team average: .280
  • Team ERA: 4.52
  • Fielding percentage: .947
  • Offense: 4.98 runs/game
  • Defense: 5.58 runs/game

Top Pitchers

  • Allie Braly (15-11, 2.41 ERA, 25 starts)

  • Olivia Ulam (.347 avg, .965 OPS, 34 RBI)
  • Hannah Bendle (.328 avg, .927 OPS, 27 RBI)
  • Addie Smith (.275 avg, .748 OPS, 26 RBI)

Scouting Saint Francis

Despiting winning its seventh NEC title since 2017, Saint Francis softball is in its final year at the Division I level as the Red Flash will transition to D-III following this season. Just finishing above .500, Saint Francis punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament with a shutout of Long Island in the Northeast Conference Tournament championship.

At the plate, Saint Francis only has one true home run hitter in Savannah Nash. The outfielder leads the team in almost every category, including batting average, homers, OPS, at-bats, hits, RBI and stolen bases. Perhaps the Red Flash’s most complete weapon, their offense runs through the NEC Player of the Year. Behind the lead-off hitter, Hannah Bendle and Olivia Ulam get on base at a high clip as well.

Allie Braly highlights the Red Flash’s pitching staff as the most reliable arm in the circle. The sophomore has started in 25 games this year and played in over 40 during her career. In her second season with the Red Flash, Olivia Kolowitz carries an ERA of 7.54 into the postseason contest vs. A&M.
