We hope you caught our preview of the guards yesterday. Today, we turn our attention to the wings.

Wing

A.C. Reid sprained his ankle during practice in October, but prior to his injury Coach McKay said he “was impressive.” The 6’5” wing started 5 games as a true freshman a year ago. Reid saw playing time in 29 games where he averaged 18 minutes per game. His final numbers of 27.6% from 3-point range is not where a shooter should be. Reid broke his nose near the end of December, forcing him to wear a protective mask much of the season. When not wearing the mask, he shot 36.5% from 3.  If he can prove to be able to consistently shoot 36% from 3, Reid could have a breakout season in 2015-16.

(Sorry, only have 1 photo of Kemrite)

Ryan Kemrite is Liberty’s top returner from a season ago. That’s not saying much though as the 6’4” wing started 15 of the 32 games he played in and averaged 4.8 points per game. When Coach McKay was first hired, I immediately thought of Kemrite and how his game should blossom. Kemrite shot 43.9% on his 82 3-point attempts as a redshirt-freshman last year. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Ryan attempt 200 3-pointers this season.

6’4”, 175-pound true freshman Caleb Homesley signed with the Flames last November over offers from The Citadel, Appalachian State, Abilene Christian, Gardner-Webb, High Point, Kent State, and UNC-Greensboro. Homesley missed most of his senior season due to a torn ACL he suffered on December 16th.

Outlook

Reid and Kemrite are the only two returnees that have started a game at Liberty, and they both fit perfectly into Coach McKay’s system. Expect plenty of 3’s to be fired by these guys all season long. If they can both shoot near 40% from long range on the season, the Flames could surprise some this year.
