With an unexpected bye date early in the season, it gives us a perfect opportunity to check in on Liberty’s class of 2019.

Verbals

The Flames have picked up early verbals from 6 prospects – Johnathan Bennett, C.J. Yarbrough, Zack Amerson, Tre’Shaun Clark, Micah Glaize, and Jason Stricker.

Bennett is a 6’1″, 205 pound quarterback from Summerville High School in Summerville, South Carolina. The 3-star prospect chose the Flames over offers from Appalachian State, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, and Old Dominion. He’s helped lead Summerville to an early 3-1 start this season while passing for 593 yards and 9 touchdowns to go along with 4 interceptions. He’s also rushed for another 287 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Yarbrough is a 3-star wide receiver who has transferred from Tanner High School in Tanner, Alabama to East Limestone High for his senior season. He also has offers from South Alabama, Troy, and Virginia. Yarbrough is a 6’3″, 185 pound prospect. Yarbrough was injured in a 4th of July car accident involving fireworks this summer. It sounds like he has made a full recovery though as he has appeared in 2 games for East Limestone this season, recording 5 receptions for 88 yards. According to 247Sports, Yarbrough is currently the highest rated commit for the Flames.

Amerson, who has recently received a 2-star rating, is a 6’4′, 212 pound defensive end prospect from Greenwood, South Carolina and Emerald High School. Liberty is his only FBS offer but he chose the Flames over offers from FCS programs. Emerald is 0-3 to start the season.

Clark is a 6’3″, 230 pound defensive end from Cape Coral High School and Cape Coral, Florida. He chose Liberty over offers from Appalachian State, Marshall, Middle Tennessee State, and Cornell. Clark and Cape Coral are off to a fast 3-0 start this season.

Glaize recently picked up a 2-star rating as the 6’3″, 190 pound safety from Brookville High School in Lynchburg chose the Flames over offers from Old Dominion, James Madison, Delaware, Elon, and Norfolk State. The Bees have started 2-0 this season. He plays both wide receiver and safety for Brookville, and was named first-team all-state at wide receiver in 2017 after hauling in 55 receptions for 1,108 yards and 14 touchdowns. His defensive effort also earned all-state honors after collecting 34 solo tackles, 18 assisted tackles, eight pass deflections and five tackles for a loss.

Stricker was the first commit in the class, as the 6’1″, 160 pound kicker pledged to the Flames early in the process. He attends Marvin Ridge High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. Stricker is 11/12 on his PATs and 4/7 on his field goal attempts this season. He has a long of 48 and 19 of his 23 kickoffs have been touchbacks.

Prospects

Some prospects to keep an eye on include offensive lineman Liam Dick, Jack Lookabaugh, and Frederick Norman, wide receivers Jeremiah Fails and Dayton Wade, defensive back Kenney Solomon, and JUCO defensive backs Deago Stubbs, Jeremiah Houston and Shahman Moore.

Dick has offers from Liberty, Louisville, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Kent State, and UMass. He’s 6’7″ and 300 pounds and from Burlington, Ontario.

Lookabaugh is a 6’5″, 285 pound offensive lineman from Coppell, Texas. He’s a 3-star prospect with offers from several schools including Liberty, San Diego State, Air Force, Army, Navy, New Mexico, Syracuse, and Utah State.

Norman is a 3-star offensive lineman from Rossville, Georgia. The 6’6″, 295 pounder has offers from Liberty, Appalachian State, and Virginia.

Fails is from Ocoee, Florida and has numerous offers including Liberty, Appalachian State, UConn, Georgia Southern, Northern Illinois, South Alabama, Southern Miss, and Troy.  He’s a 5’11”, 180 pound wide receiver.

Wade is a 6’0″, 165 pound receiver from Hampton, Georgia. He has offers from Liberty, Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Coastal Carolina, Eastern Michigan, Georgia Southern, Miami (OH), Southern Miss, and Troy.

Solomon is a 2-star prospect from Myrtle Beach. In addition to Liberty, the 6’0″, 170 pound corner also has offers from UCF, Coastal Carolina, Kent State, Marshall, and Miami (OH).

Stubbs is a 6’2″, 180 pound defensive back originally from Las Vegas. He’s currently at Glendale Community College in Glendale, Arizona. he amassed 3,742 total yards and 47 touchdowns in three seasons in high school while playing all over the field from offensive line to special teams, running back, wide receiver, and defensive back.

Houston currently attends Long Beach City College in Long Beach, California. He’s a 6’0″, 200 pound defensive back prospect that plays both corner and free safety.

Moore is a 6’0″, 170 pound cornerback at El Camino College in El Segundon, California. He has offers from Liberty and UTSA.
