1. The Black Knights opened the 2018 season last Friday night with a 34-14 loss at Duke.

Army fell behind 17-0 and was never able to catch up to the ACC opponent.

2. Army threw the ball for 197 yards against the Blue Devils.

Making his first career start, quarterback Kelvin Hopkins, Jr., attempted 21 passes, significantly higher than the 5 pass attempts the Black Knights attempted in 2017. Behind a well-known triple-option offensive attack, Army led the nation in rushing last year with 362.3 yards per game. The 197 passing yards was the most in a game for Army since 2015.

3. Senior running back Darnell Woolfolk is key to Army’s offense.

Woolfolk was unable to get going against Duke, rushing just 7 times for 20 yards. He rushed for 812 yards and 14 touchdowns a season ago.

“He’s the guy,” Coach Gill said of Woolfolk. “If they get him rolling, we’re in trouble.”

4. Coach Monken likes to go for it on 4th down.

In his time as a head coach, Coach Monken has always had a propensity to gamble a bit on 4th down. He likes to go for it on 4th down, whether it’s by lining up on offense to pick up the first, or to do a fake punt or fake field goals. And it doesn’t matter where at on the field the offense is, Army has the potential to go for it or try a fake. They were a perfect 4-for-4 on 4th down against Duke.

5. The Black Knights play in historic Michie Stadium.

It opened in 1924 and has a current seating capacity of 38,000. The stadium overlooks the Hudson River and was rated as Sports Illustrated’s #3 sports venue of the 20th century.
