Since the end of the 2024 football season, Liberty has seen 31 players enter the transfer portal. They enter the portal for a variety of reasons whether it’s looking for more NIL money, more playing time, or a better opportunity. Here’s where Liberty’s players have ended up so far.
QB Kaidon Salter – Colorado
Salter has one year of eligibility remaining. He helped lead Liberty to unprecedented success in 2023 in his first full year as the team’s starting quarterback. The Flames finished the year at 13-1 following a loss to Oregon on New Year’s Day in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl. Salter completed 177 of 290 passes for 2,876 yards, 32 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. He also rushed 163 times for 1,089 yards and 12 additional scores. Last year as Liberty’s starting quarterback, Salter helped the Flames to an 8-3 season. He was 147 of 261 passing for 1,886 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. He also rushed 114 times for 586 yards and 7 touchdowns.
OL Jordan White – Vanderbilt
Originally a transfer from West Virginia, White was named to the CUSA All-Conference second team in 2023 as he started all 14 games at center for the Flames. He played on nearly 94% of the team’s snaps last year. This season, White spent most of his time as Liberty’s starting left guard and was once again among the team leaders in snaps played.
OL Xavior Gray – Northwestern
Gray transferred to Liberty from Akron prior to the 2023 season. He started all 14 games for the Flames in 2023 at right tackle and ranked fifth on the team in total offensive snaps. This year, Gray maintained his spot as Liberty’s starting right tackle.
DE TJ Bush – Cal
Bush totaled 90 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, and 9 pass breakups in two years at Liberty. He received freshman All-American and CUSA All-Freshman team honors.
DT Jay Hardy – Auburn
Hardy has been a big part of Liberty’s defensive line the past three seasons. In 2024, he recorded 7 tackles while fighting through injuries. Over his career, Hardy totaled 54 tackles with 2 sacks.
CB Jayden Sweeney – FAU
Sweeney began his career at Liberty as a safety but switched to corner a year ago. He has played in 22 games over the past two seasons with the Flames, recording 16 tackles.
OL Jordan Hall – Tulane
Hall transferred to Liberty from Monmouth. He had total ankle reconstruction surgery during the offseason and it took him a little while to get full speed this past fall. Once he did, he became a key member of Liberty’s rotation on the offensive line, working primarily at tackle.
RB James Jointer – Eastern Michigan
Jointer transferred to Liberty prior to the 2023 season from Arkansas where he was a highly rated prospect out of high school. In his first season with the Flames, Jointer had 43 carries for 251 yards and 2 touchdowns. This past season, while fighting through injuries, Jointer had 12 carries for 61 yards. With the losses of Quinton Cooley and Billy Lucas, it was expected that Jointer would fight to be a starting running back in 2025.
DT Chris Boti – Arkansas State
A 6’1″, 270 pound defensive lineman, Boti played in all 12 games f or the Flames last year, totaling 36 tackles and one forced fumble.
CB Dominick Hill – Southern Miss
Hill transferred to Liberty from Temple for the 2024 season. Hill did not play for the Flames this past fall.
DL Eliyt Nairne – Tulane
Nairne redshirted for the Flames in 2023 as a true freshman, but he developed into a strong rotation piece on the interior of the defensive line in 2024. This past season he had 25 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack.
DL Rod Daniels – Kennesaw State
Daniels was a mid-year enrollee a year ago, joining Liberty from Northwestern Mississippi Community College. He played in 10 of 11 games for the Flames this season as a reserve defensive lineman, finishing with one tackle.
DL Marius Landsfeld – Mercer
Landsfeld has been a reserve defensive lineman for the Flames the past couple of seasons.
QB Nate Hampton – Gardner-Webb
Hampton was Liberty’s third string quarterback this past season. He completed 4 of 13 passes for 139 yards and 1 touchdown while rushing 19 times for 50 yards during his three year career with the Flames.
WR Markel Fortenberry – Gardner-Webb
Fortenberry has been a reserve wide receiver for the Flames for the past couple of years.
WR Cesar Carraso – Bucknell
Carrasco was a walk-on for the Flames.
WR Kylen Austin – Albany
Austin had 4 receptions for 117 yards during his Liberty career.
S Jabin Ford – South Carolina State
Ford has been a reserve defensive back for the Flames for the past two seasons. He posted 4 tackles in 10 games played this past season, primarily on special teams.
DE Larry Jones III – Florida A&M
Jones has been a reserve defensive end his first two seasons at Liberty, playing behind TJ Bush. He has played in 15 games over the past two years with 7 tackles and 0.5 sacks.
OL Rex Lahr – Youngstown State
Lahr did not play in his first year at Liberty this past season.
LB Barrett Newman – Northwestern State
Newman was a walk-on linebacker who did not record any stats for the Flames.
OL Izaiah Taylor – Georgia Military Junior College
Taylor was redshirted in 2024 as a true freshman. He did not see any action.
RB Victor Venn – undecided
Venn transferred to Liberty from Colorado prior to the 2023 season when he had 5 carries for 25 yards and 2 receptions for 10 yards. He also was part of Liberty’s kickoff return team. This past fall, Venn did not record any stats as he suffered through an injury.
K Nick Brown – undecided
Brown is in the portal as a grad transfer. He served as Liberty’s primary kicker during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. He made 16 of 29 field goals with a long of 49 and also connected on 105 PATs. Colin Karhu beat him out as the Flames’ kicker in 2024.
CB Joshua Wiggins – undecided
Wiggins has spent the past two seasons at Liberty after transferring from Colorado. He played in 8 games in a reserve role during the 2023 campaign, recording one pass breakup. He missed the 2024 season due to injury.
WR Victor Jones – undecided
Jones spent his true freshman season in 2022 at Nebraska where he did not play. He then transferred to Liberty and has not seen the field in the past two seasons due to injury.
DT Kristyane Gregory – undecided
Gregory was a true freshman in 2024 and did not see the field as he redshirted. He was a three-star recruit out of high school.
WR Jamauri Knox – undecided
Knox did not play in his first year at Liberty this past season.
WR Carson Vines – undecided
Vines was a walk-on receiver who did not record any stats in 2024.
RB Kyle Hanks – undecided
A walk-on, Hanks played in one game with one carry during his time at Liberty.
DB Marquis Bell – undecided
Bell was a reserve defensive back for the Flames in 2023. He played both safety and corner, finishing that year with 15 tackles and 3 pass breakups. Bell had a reduced role this past season, finishing the year with just one tackle.
