Des Rice and the Flames look to push their win streak against VMI to 8 straight

Last time teams meet?
With VMI leaving the Big South after this season for the Southern Conference, could today be the final meeting between the longtime rivals? Liberty and VMI meet today for the 12th consecutive time and 13th time all-time. The Flames lead the series 9-3 and have won the past 7 meetings. Turner Gill said earlier this week in his weekly press conference that there are no current plans for the two to meet in the future.

Personally, I will hate for the series to end. No, it hasn’t been the most competitive, but it’s an easy road trip to make to Lexington and the cadets often make the trip to Lynchburg. It’s a nice in-state rivalry which I would hate to end. Also, most years it would make for an easy Liberty FCS win, certainly better than having to play a Division II team.

34 point spread
Liberty is favored by 34 points against VMI. Yes VMI is bad, and yes 3 of the Keydets’ 7 losses have come by 34 points or more, but that is still a big number for a 4-4 team facing a conference opponent. Not to mention the Flames have only scored 34 points or more in half of their games this season. Will Liberty cover?

Military appreciation day
During today’s game Liberty will be hosting their annual military appreciation day. So, if you’re at the game stick around for a special halftime performance, and Liberty athletics will also be accepting “donated items” to help support the troops. For a full list of items that can be donated, check Liberty athletics’ official website.
