On Saturday, Liberty hosted Presbyterian in what would be their final game as an FCS squad at Williams Stadium. It was an offensive fanfare for the Flames as they amassed 628 total yards, including 317 on the ground, both of which were season highs. Defensively Liberty continued to struggle. They allowed 452 total yards to a team averaging just over 300 a game. This was highlighted by Presbyterian QB Will Brock who threw for a career-high 297 yards, nearly double his season average. In any manner, the Flames picked up their 3rd straight win and secured another winning season.

Offense

MVP: QB Buckshot Calvert

Buckshot etched his way into Liberty’s record books Saturday evening as he has now thrown for more passing TDs in a single season than any other QB in Liberty history. He started the afternoon out with a beautiful play action fake setting up a 68-yard TD toss giving, him the TD record. He followed that up with 2 more TDs of 30 and 31 yard. He finished the night we 311 passing yards and 3 TDs. Buckshot now sits at 27 passing TDs on the season with one game left to play.

Defense

MVP: DL Juwan Wells

Wells had a notable night for the defense. He spent ample time in the offensive backfield as he picked up a couple of tackles for loss on top of 3 QB hurries. He had 7 total tackles for the evening.

Special Teams

MVP: RB Frankie Hickson

Expectations were high for special teams play coming into the season. These expectations are highlighted by what Frankie Hickson is capable of. On Saturday, Hickson gave a glimpse of that by returning the opening kickoff 84 yards to the Presby 11 yard line, setting up Liberty’s first TD of the game. He had 4 kick returns on the evening for 118 yards, an average of 30 yards per return. As a bonus, Hickson also had 16 carries for 97 yards and a touchdown Saturday.
