Liberty overcame a slow start on Saturday afternoon, and once again revved up the running game to defeat the VMI Keydets 33-14.  The Flames rushed for 179 yards and 4 touchdowns, while only allowing 26 rushing yards, giving Liberty a decisive advantage in the second half of the game.  Aldreakis Allen led the team with 99 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Sirchauncey Holloway contributed to the cause with 66 yards and 2 touchdowns as well.

Redshirt Freshman Quarterback Josh Woodrum finished his season with a 19 of 29, 1 touchdown and 1 interception performance for 172 yards passing.  Woodrum’s first season at the helm was a solid start, as he finished with 1,966 yards passing, for 11 touchdowns and 9 interceptions.

The Flames finish the season with a share of the Big South Championship, their fifth in the last six seasons.  However, due to the Big South three way tie breaker rules, Liberty will once again fail to reach the FCS playoffs.  Liberty was able to rattle off 3 consecutive wins to finish the season, giving them a winning record (6-5), and a positive spin on a difficult first year for Head Coach Turner Gill.  Given the team’s 0-4 start, a 6-5 finish with a share of the conference title has to be viewed as an encouraging result.
