Rivals has published their final men’s basketball recruit rankings for the class of 2021 and Liberty signee Joseph Venzant is included in the Rivals’ 2021 positional rankings as one of the top shooting guards in the country in this class.

The 6’3″, 185 pound Venzant comes to Liberty by way of Midland Christian in Midland, Texas. He committed to the Flames December 2019 over offers from Cal State Fullerton, Tulsa, UTEP, UTSA, and Wake Forest. He is ranked a three-star prospect by both Rivals and 247Sports. Rivals has him ranked as the No. 51 shooting guard prospect in the class of 2021, and he signed with Liberty last November.

As a junior, Venzant helped lead Midland Christian to a Final Four appearance in the state tournament before falling to the eventual TAPPS 6A State Champs John Paul II. Venzant averaged 21 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game this past season as a junior and was named MVP of District I for a third consecutive season. He was also named first-team all-state TAPPS 6A for a second consecutive season and was named to the TAPPS Final Four all-tournament team.

Venzant can play immediately, and he could push for the starting spot left vacated by Elijah Cuffee’s departure. He’s a tough, hard-nosed defender who has the potential to grow into a very good offensive player, as well.
