In December, we debuted a new series entitled, “The Search”, which will give you an inside look at the battle for the starting quarterback position this fall.

Shortly after the conclusion of the 2015 season, Coach Gill announced that quarterbacks coach Joe Dailey had been promoted to Offensive Coordinator. This would be a huge change regardless of the timing, but it adds another wrinkle with the Flames also breaking in a new quarterback for the first time in 4 years.

How will this move affect the quarterback battle? Gill says it will make it easier, “it will be a little easier transition with the quarterback situation because they’ve had a lot of communication with each other.” Coach Dailey agreed, “not much is really going to change. I’m still going to coach those guys the same way I’ve always coached them. Now, they’re getting direct instructions on all phases, not just passing, (but) run, pass, screens, you name it.”

How different will the offense be under Dailey? “(There) may be a few things we try to do a little differently, but it’s all about execution,” Gill explained. Dailey went further on how this change will affect the quarterbacks, “we’re not going to change much at the quarterback position. We’re going to do what we’ve always done, we’re just going to change a couple things schematically.”
