MENS SOCCER

The men’s soccer team opened up their season last Friday. They hosted Howard, winning 2-0. After that, they traveled to Lexington, Virginia to take on the VMI. Thanks to three goals from midfielder Jovanni Chavez, the Flames rose above the Keydets and won 5-2. They open the season undefeated at 2-0.

Liberty hosts William & Mary tonight, September 2nd, in Osborne Stadium at 7:00pm.

VOLLEYBALL

After starting the season with a 3-game away skid, the Lady Flames return home to host the Liberty Invitational. Over the course of their first three games, they won just one set and was shutout against Pittsburg and Missouri. Now that the Flames return to the Vines, they hope to see more success over the weekend.

FLAMES IN THE NFL

With the preseason coming to a close, NFL rosters are being trimmed down to meet the 53-man regular season requirement. Because of this, a number of Flames have been dismissed from squads. He is an updated list:

RB Rashad Jennings (New York Giants)-It’s no surprise Jennings has made it through the first round of cuts. Unless something unexpected happens, he will be on the 53-man roster.

WR Darrin Peterson (Chicago Bears) -Peterson has been released by the Bears.

K John Lunsford (San Fransisco 49ers)-Lunsford has been released by the 49ers.

DL Niko Davis (Kansas City Chiefs) –Davis has been released by the Chiefs.

S Jacob Hagen (Pittsburg Steelers)-Hagen has been released by the Steelers.

CB Walt Aikens (Miami Dolphins)-Just like Jennings, Aikens has made a place for himself on the final roster, barring an injury or something unexpected.

LIBERTY FOOTBALL KICKS OFF SATURDAY

Football season is upon us. Liberty travels down to Blacksburg, Virginia to take on one of the biggest teams they have ever faced this Saturday: Virginia Tech. It is a mid-day game, starting ar 12:20pm.

For those who are local, the game will be shown on WDBJ 7 and WGHP 8. For those who aren’t, ESPN 3 is the way to go.
