After a crazy week for Flames football, the players were able to focus and get back to playing yesterday afternoon. Because of Thursday’s hailstorm, practice was rescheduled for Friday. Thankfully the weather was about forty degrees higher than the previous day, making for a very enjoyable atmosphere. Here’s what stood out to us in the seventh open practice:

Offense

  • Desmond Rice, D.J. Abnar, and Austin Kaigler rotated in at running back today.
  • Rice has been a pleasant surprise, and has really stepped up his game this spring. He had a couple of twenty+ yard gains yesterday.
  • The O-Line did a great job blocking in the run game today, opening up some huge holes in the defense.

Defense

  • Seniors Cory Freeman and Jibrille Fewell will be the leaders on the defensive front this year.
  • Fewell had a great practice, putting pressure on the various quarterbacks throughout.
  • Linebacker Scott Hyland seemed to be one of the few defenders interested in stopping up the running lanes in practice today, his aggressiveness has been superb.
  • Jacob Hagen has been very vocal on pre-snap defense. He brings a “quarterback” type leadership to the defense.

We are exactly one week away from the 2013 Liberty spring game.
