It is evident that the Flames are starting to shed off some of their spring rust at this point. There is a long way to go, but there seems to be more structure, less missed assignments, fewer drops, etc. Here is a look inside the fourth practice of the spring season:

Offense:
  • Last practice we bragged on Brandon Apon’s blocking skills, this practice he showed off his receiving talents. He will be very tough for defensive backs to bring down after the catch.
  • The offense ran the screen very effectively with a couple of huge gains on few attempts; very impressive for the new faces on the O-line.
  • Cory Benedetto came in at quarterback and tried a couple of option plays. He may be used in special situations as a change up from Woodrum.
  • The line is thin this spring, but will pick up a lot of depth with the incoming class.

Defense

  • Walt Aikens and Kevin Fogg lead a deep group of corners, including Ryan Ayers and Kenny Scott.
  • Having big shoes to fill after Brent Vinson’s outstanding 2012 season, Jacob Hagen and Aaron Dial have been key at safety in the formation of an outstanding group of DBs.

Tomorrow’s practice will mark the halfway point leading up to the Spring Game.
