Running Backs

FB 86 Michael Johnson (Jr., 6-3, 235)

41 Nicky Fualaau (So., 6-0, 220)

Throughout Spring ball the Flames did not work much on sets with a fullback, but Michael Johnson came out of nowhere to vault to #1 on the depth chart. Johnson was a pitcher at Longwood for a season prior to transferring to Liberty. Fualaau was the #1 fullback for most of the 2012 season, but due to injury he was not a full participant during practice this Spring.

TB 26 Desmond Rice (Jr., 5-8, 195)

2 D.J. Abnar (So., 5-10, 185)

Following Aldreakis Allen’s suspension, tailback went from being a team strength to a question mark. Both Rice and Abnar have some experience, and both looked good during their time on the field. However, neither have had to be counted as an every down back, and with Allen’s return still in question both Rice and Abnar will need to step up their production. If Allen does not return, look for Rice to be the every down back with Abnar being used on 3rd down and 5-wide sets.

Incoming freshmen Todd Macon and Josh Smith will both be in the mix to be a part of the running back rotation in the Fall.
