Liberty senior cornerback Emanuel Dabney has entered the transfer portal. Dabney played in 9 games with the Flames in 2020, making 7 starts.

The 6’0″, 180 pound corner is originally from Jackson, Mississippi and transferred to Liberty prior to the 2019 season after beginning his collegiate career at Hinds Community College. Dabney originally signed with Southern Miss out of high school and spent a brief period of time with them before going the JUCO route.

Dabney started 7 of Liberty’s first 8 games in 2020 before announcing he was entering the transfer portal following the Flames’ game against NC State. He had a change of heart shortly thereafter, deciding to finish out the season with the Flames. Dabney will have one year of eligibility with a redshirt season still in tact since the 2020 season will not count against his eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He finished the season with 15 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and 7 passes defended.

The Flames will turn to Chris Megginson and Marcus Haskins as the team’s starters at corner entering the offseason. Megginson started the entire 2020 season at one corner spot while Haskins began the year at safety before moving to corner in the second half of the season. Last month, Liberty head coach Hugh Freeze stated the staff would be pursuing corners to help close out the 2021 recruiting class.

We continue to monitor Liberty’s senior class who are all eligible to return. You can keep up with that information here.
