Former Liberty forward Scottie James has excelled in his first season of professional basketball, playing for the Jobstairs Gieseen 46ers in Germany. The 46ers play in the Basketball Bundesliga, the top league in Germany competing against teams that include Bayren Munich and Alba Berlin.

In 21 games played, James is averaging in 9.5 points and 5.1 rebounds in 20.6 minutes per game. He’s shooting 57.7% from the field and 34.4% from three-point range. He is 6th on his team in scoring and 2nd in rebounding. James has season highs of 26 points and 13 rebounds, coming in a game on Jan. 10, his second double-double of the season. He recorded his first double-double on Dec. 8 with 21 points and 12 rebounds.

James concluded his Liberty career by being named to the ASUN first-team all-conference for his last two seasons in a Flames’ uniform, as well as being named the ASUN Tournament MVP in 2019 when he helped lead the Flames to their first of three straight ASUN Tournament titles. James finished his Liberty career as one of the best players in school history, finishing with 1,323 career points which is good for No. 17 on the all-time scoring list and No. 4 on the school’s all-time rebounding list with 891 career rebounds.

All four Liberty seniors from the 2019-20 basketball season have gone on to play professionally. In addition to James, Caleb Homesley signed with the Washington Wizards and played for the Erie BayHawks in the G League, Georgie Pacheco-Ortiz played in both Puerto Rico and Mexico, and Myo Baxter-Bell recently signed with an Argentinian team.
