Liberty lost to Bowling Green, 23-13, this past Saturday as the team has slipped to 1-2 on the season. Here’s how we have the team graded out for this game.
Quarterbacks: C-
- Vasko had two turnovers for a second straight day. He also completed less than 55% of his passes and just had 5 rushing yards, though some of that should be attributed to the offensive line for some of his sacks.
Running Backs: C
- The Flames finished with 39 rushes for 152 yards and a touchdown, good for 3.9 yards per carry. Not bad, not great. Evan Dickens did have a long touchdown run wiped off due to a penalty that affects those numbers. Caden Williams had a crucial fumble hurting the team right before halftime and setting Bowling Green up for a touchdown as they extended the lead to two scores.
Wide Receivers/Tight Ends: B-
- The receivers had 11 receptions for 176 yards and a touchdown. Reese Smith had a lost fumble on the first drive of the game that halted what could have been a scoring drive.
Offensive Line: C-
- Gave up pressure and four sacks. Many other times Vasko was running for his life. Run blocking was solid but not overpowering. Multiple penalties that wiped off big plays. Improvement needed.
Run Defense: C+
- The Flames allowed 158 rushing yards and a touchdown at 4.4 yards per carry. Not a terrible performance, definitely an improvement from a week prior.
Pass Defense: B
- Bowling Green was held to 146 passing yards, only completing 50% of 32 passes with one touchdown.
Special Teams: C+
- The Flames missed a field goal, but had improvement in the kick return game. Liberty also averaged a solid 42.7 yards per punt.
