QB MALIK WILLIS
This week: Miami 28, New York Jets 25
Willis delivered his best performance of the season Sunday, leading the Miami Dolphins to their first win of the year with a 28-25 victory over the New York Jets.
The former Liberty quarterback completed 14 of 21 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns without throwing an interception. He also rushed eight times for 37 yards and a touchdown, accounting for three of Miami’s four touchdowns. Willis connected with rookie wide receiver Caleb Douglas for both touchdown passes. The first came on a seven-yard strike during Miami’s opening drive, giving the Dolphins their first opening-drive points of the season. The second proved to be one of the biggest plays of the afternoon, as Douglas turned a short pass into a 63-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter to give Miami an 11-point lead. Willis also scored on a two-yard scramble just before halftime, helping Miami take a 21-7 advantage into the break.
The Jets rallied late, cutting the deficit to three points, but Willis helped seal the victory with a crucial fourth-and-1 quarterback sneak that allowed Miami to maintain possession and run out the clock. The win was Willis’ first as Miami’s starting quarterback and the Dolphins’ first victory of the season. Miami improved to 1-5, while first-year head coach Jeff Hafley also earned his first NFL victory.
Through six games played, Willis has completed 87 of 151 passes for 1,057 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions. He has added 35 carries for 223 yards and two rushing touchdowns. After a difficult start to the season, Willis gave Miami its most encouraging offensive performance yet, showing his ability to make plays both through the air and on the ground.
2026 stats: 87-of-151 passing, 1,057 yards, 4 TD, 4 INT; 35 carries, 223 yards, 2 TD
