We continue to countdown towards the 2025 football season where Liberty will look to make it back to a bowl game while also competing for a CUSA title.
As we have done the past several years, we will rank Liberty’s top 25 football players entering the 2025 season. We begin the list today with our rankings of players 25-21. Stay on the lookout for the rest of this countdown this week.
25. Caden Williams
The first of three running backs on this year’s ranking, Caden Williams will have a huge opportunity in 2025. As a true freshman last year, Williams played in three games, finishing with 14 carries for 47 yards with most of that work coming in the Bahamas Bowl against Buffalo. Now, with Quinton Cooley and Billy Lucas moving on, Liberty is looking for its next dependable bell-cow at running back and Williams could end up being that guy, depending on how he handles his opportunities.
24. Elijah Canion
Transferring in from Purdue a season ago, the 6’4″ Elijah Canion caught 25 passes for 354 yards and 3 touchdowns with a long of 50 for the Flames. He is the third highest graded returning offensive player according to PFF. Canion has a very high ceiling as he could grow into the team’s most consistent and reliable threat in the passing game. The first of three wide receivers in this year’s ranking, Canion will look to establish some chemistry with Liberty’s starting quarterback throughout the off-season and heading into the fall.
23. Eldric Griffin
Griffin played in 12 games last year for the Flames, his first season in the program. He was a steady hand Liberty had at safety, finishing the season with 18 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 sack, and 2 PBUs. He returns to a talented and experienced defensive secondary for the Flames who look to take a step up in terms of production for the defensive unit as a whole.
22. Derrell Farrar
Derrell Farrar is a 6’1″, 225 pound linebacker originally from Loganville, Georgia. In two seasons at App State, Farrar totaled 52 tackles and 1.5 sacks. He entered the portal during the spring and ended up with the Flames. Farrar will have a chance to slide into Liberty’s starting lineup and be a key factor on defense.
21. Max Morgan
Liberty’s punter slides up a few spots from last year’s ranking of #24. Max Morgan has proven to be a consistent, reliable, and now proven punter for the Flames. On 103 punts over his career, Morgan is averaging 42.1 yards per punt with 31 of those being inside the 20-yard line. He’s also handled the team’s kickoff duties the past two years, something he will be in consideration to do again this fall.
