Update 4/23: It is now official as Johnson has signed with the Flames.

Update 4/16: Johnson has reportedly received interest from Georgia Tech, Northwestern, San Francisco, UC Riverside, and Portland State. His dad said that James is focusing on Christian schools though, and called Liberty and Grand Canyon University “serious contenders.” Both of Johnson’s sisters attended Liberty. Also, as we reported previously, Johnson visited Liberty last week.

Our previous report from April 2nd:
San Diego State junior forward James Johnson plans to transfer, and, according to this article, he is expected to visit Liberty.

Johnson is a 6’9″, 235 pound forward who could transfer to another Division I program and be eligible to play immediately if he completes his degree. Johnson originally attended Virginia where he redshirted as a freshman, and transferred to San Diego State during his sophomore season due to a lack of playing time. This past season he averaged 1.8 points and 1.5 rebounds in 9.1 minutes. Johnson has one season of eligibility remaining.
