Back for the first time this season, the ASOR Men’s Basketball Player of the Week is Keegan McDowell.

As a redshirt senior, McDowell is the most experienced player on the Liberty roster. This past week, McDowell made his first appearance in the starting lineup and proved why he deserved that starting spot. Against Bethune-Cookman, McDowell had a 17-point performance and followed that up a few days later with 16 points against Maryland-Eastern Shore. McDowell hit eight total threes while also recording 7 assists in the two games.

McDowell has previously shown flashes of high-level play during his career as a Flame. For example, last December, McDowell was named ASUN Player of The Week after scoring a career-high 21 points against St. Francis. Throughout the Flames first six games this season, McDowell is averaging 11.2 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 1.2 apg, while shooting at a 55% clip from the field. McDowell leads the team in both three-point and free throw percentage and is second on the team in scoring.

McDowell has been very efficient and has provided a needed spark on offense for the Flames this season. With a young team that has struggled to find a groove on offense at times, McDowell’s offensive production looks to be very crucial for Liberty this season. McDowell averaged 16.5 points and four three-pointers made last week. With a tough test in SEC opponent Missouri coming to town this Thursday, we will see if McDowell will retain his hot hand and help lead the Flames to victory.
